What they need
Make a Real Difference in Primary Care
East Health is seeking a passionate and experienced Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP) to join our innovative Te Tumu Waiora team at Ormiston Medical, located in Flat Bush.
This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week, with flexibility around working arrangements. Ideally, you will be available Monday to Friday. As this role supports a diverse patient population, fluency in Mandarin is essential.
Te Tumu Waiora is transforming the way mental health and wellbeing support is delivered in primary care. As a Health Improvement Practitioner, you will be embedded within the general practice team, providing immediate, accessible, evidence-based support to individuals and whānau, helping them improve both their mental and physical wellbeing.
The Role
- Provide brief psychological interventions, particularly Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (FACT), and deliver evidence-based group programmes.
- Provide consultation, education, and advice to other members of the General Practice team.
- Support local population health by developing intervention pathways based on clinic needs.
About You
- Be a registered health professional who meets the NZHPCA requirements (e.g., psychologist, psychotherapist, registered nurse, social worker, occupational therapist) with talk-based therapy experience.
- Hold a current practising certificate in your area of expertise with no restrictions.
- Be self-motivated, independent, and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team dedicated to improving people's health and wellbeing.
- Thrive in the fast-paced and varied environment of General Practice.
- Have training in talking therapies such as ACT, FACT, or CBT.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with diverse communities.
- Be fluent in both Mandarin and English, with the ability to communicate effectively with Mandarin-speaking patients and whānau.
What We Offer
At East Health Trust, you'll be supported to grow and succeed through:
- Working alongside Health Coaches, General Practitioners, Nurses, and other health professionals in an integrated primary care model.

- Access to a nationwide network of Health Improvement Practitioners for shared learning and support.
- A competitive remuneration package.
- The opportunity to be part of a progressive organisation committed to improving health equity and achieving better outcomes for our communities.
