What they need

The Ambient Heating Company is a renewable energy and building services company, backed by years of experience in the heating and construction industry and an existing customer base.

Our main focus is renewable heating, particularly air-source heat pumps, but we are building a multidisciplinary business covering heating, cooling/HVAC, solar installation and home automation.

We are looking for a skilled heating engineer who wants to develop with the company. Alongside your main role as a heating engineer, you will have the opportunity to receive interdisciplinary training and work alongside engineers in solar, HVAC and home automation.

The Role

The role will primarily involve the installation of renewable heating and conventional wet heating systems across residential projects in London and the surrounding areas.

Typical work will include:

  • Air-source heat pump installations and associated hydraulic systems
  • Copper and multilayer pipework
  • Radiator installation and replacement
  • Underfloor heating installation, including manifolds and controls
  • Hot-water cylinders, buffer vessels, pumps and valves
  • Plant-room installation
  • Plumbing and heating first and second fix
  • System flushing, filling, testing and dosing
  • Commissioning and balancing heating systems
  • Fault finding and problem solving
  • Working from drawings and system designs
  • Keeping clear records and photographs of work completed
  • Working alongside engineers from other disciplines
  • Maintaining a clean, professional standard when working in customers' homes

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong experience in domestic plumbing and wet heating systems
  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating, or equivalent
  • Confident installing pipework, radiators and underfloor heating systems
  • Able to work neatly and to a high standard
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Good practical problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • Good communication and customer-service skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Own hand tools appropriate to the role

Desirable Experience and Qualifications

The following would be beneficial but are not essential:

  • Air-source heat pump installation experience
  • BPEC, LCL or equivalent heat-pump qualification
  • Gas Safe qualifications
  • G3 Unvented Hot Water qualification
  • Water Regulations qualification
  • Experience installing cylinders and plant rooms
  • Heating controls experience
  • F-Gas qualification or experience with air-conditioning systems
  • CSCS card

Heat-pump and gas experience are particularly useful, although we are open to someone with a strong conventional heating background who wants to move further into renewable technologies.

Training and Development

We want this to be a role where someone can broaden their skills rather than simply continue doing the same type of work.

Training and experience will be available across:

  • Air-source heat pumps and renewable heating
  • Solar PV installation
  • HVAC and air-conditioning
  • Home automation and controls

You will also have opportunities to work alongside specialists from these different disciplines as the company grows.

Working Arrangement

The position is initially offered on a subcontract basis for 4 days per week, with the option to work a 5th day depending on workload and availability.

A company van will be provided.

We are looking for someone reliable who wants a consistent working relationship rather than simply occasional individual jobs.

Applying

Please send across:

  • Your CV or a brief summary of your experience
  • Relevant qualifications
