Heating (ASHP) surveyor

Job Summary

To carry out accurate property surveys and heat-loss assessments for proposed air source heat pump installations, providing a complete and practical handover to the design, quotation and installation teams.

The surveyor will identify technical requirements and potential installation issues early, while ensuring customers understand the proposed works.

Key responsibilities

Property assessment

• Measure rooms and record relevant building fabric, glazing, insulation and ventilation details.
• Assess existing heating systems, radiators, pipework, controls and hot water provision.
• Record customer heating requirements, occupancy information and relevant property constraints.
• Flag missing information or assumptions requiring verification.

Heat-loss assessment and installation planning

• Establish radiator requirements at the proposed system operating temperatures.
• Assess possible outdoor unit locations, including access, clearances, condensate disposal and potential noise concerns.
• Assess cylinder locations, pipework routes and space for associated equipment.
• Record electrical supply information and flag requirements for assessment by a suitably qualified electrician.
• Identify enabling works, access arrangements and specialist assessments needed before installation.
• Refer design decisions or technical issues beyond the surveyor’s competence to the appropriate team member.

Reports and handover

• Submit complete survey reports with measurements, photographs, sketches and clear installation notes.
• Provide information required for quotations, equipment selection and materials planning.
• Gather relevant evidence for grant eligibility and project documentation, referring uncertain cases to the compliance team.
• Answer queries from designers and installers and arrange further checks where necessary.
• Keep customer and project records accurate and up to date.

Customer service and safe working

• Explain proposed works clearly, including equipment locations and likely disruption.
• Record customer preferences and concerns for the project team.
• Avoid making unapproved commitments about grants, savings, pricing or installation dates.
• Follow company procedures for safe working, property access and handling customer information.

Essential experience and skills

• Relevant experience in heat pump surveying, heating design or domestic heating installation.
• Practical knowledge of heat-loss calculations, radiator sizing, low-temperature heating and hot water systems.
• Ability to recognise installation constraints and produce a usable technical handover.
• Strong organisation, attention to detail and customer communication skills.
• Confidence with digital survey tools and reporting software.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between properties.

Desirable experience and qualifications

• Relevant plumbing, heating or building services qualifications.
• Air source heat pump training.
• Experience using Spruce or comparable heat-loss software.
• Familiarity with MCS installation requirements and Boiler Upgrade Scheme projects.
• Experience surveying electrically heated homes and oil or LPG heating replacements.

• Accurate, complete surveys submitted within agreed timescales.
• Clear handovers that reduce repeat visits and avoidable installation changes.
• Early identification of technical risks and additional works.
• Positive customer feedback and effective communication with colleagues.

Pay: £46,000.00-£48,000.00 per year
