Heavy Equipment Operator

CiviCorp Excavation Inc. is a growing civil contractor specializing in excavation, earthworks, underground utilities, and site development across Nova Scotia. We're hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators who run their machines with precision, work safely around ground crews, and take pride in a clean, productive job site. You'll report to the Site Foreman and Superintendent and work closely with ground crews and fellow operators every day.

Equipment

Excavators, loaders, dozers, compaction equipment, and other earthmoving machinery, depending on project needs.

What You'll Do

• Operate safely and productively on excavation, earthworks, underground utility, and site development projects.
• Inspect your machine daily before start-up, handle routine care (cleaning, greasing, fluid checks), and report mechanical issues promptly.
• Stay aware of your surroundings - ground crews, buried utilities, open trenches, traffic, and changing site conditions.
• Work as part of the crew, taking direction from the Foreman and communicating with ground crews by hand signals and radio.
• Place and move material accurately, keeping work areas and loading zones safe and organized.
• Follow all safety procedures, including company policies and Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety regulations.

What You Bring

• 3+ years operating heavy construction equipment (preferred).
• Experience in excavation, site development, or civil construction.
• Strong safety awareness and mechanical aptitude.
• Reliable and professional - able to work independently while keeping your supervisor in the loop.
• Heavy Equipment Operator certification is an asset.

Working Conditions

This is outdoor work in all weather on active construction sites, with noise, dust, fumes, uneven ground, and moving equipment. Safety boots, hard hat, hi-vis clothing, and hearing protection are required. You should be comfortable sitting, standing, and walking on uneven ground for long periods, climbing on and off equipment, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lb.
