Join our dynamic team as a Helper, where you'll play a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of waste collection and transportation services. This entry-level position offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in solid waste management while working outdoors in a fast-paced environment. As a Helper, you will assist with the loading, unloading, and transportation of waste materials, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and traffic laws. Duties

• Assist with the loading and unloading of garbage, recyclables, and other waste materials using front loader or roll-off trucks
• Support the driver in maneuvering commercial trucks such as rear loader, front loader, and roll-off trucks along designated routes
• Help ensure proper securing of loads to meet safety standards and prevent spillage during transit
• Perform routine inspections of trucks for mechanical issues or safety hazards, reporting any concerns promptly
• Follow all traffic laws, safety protocols, and hazardous materials regulations while on route
• Support route driving by helping with navigation and ensuring timely collection schedules
• Assist with outdoor work activities including yard maintenance, equipment checks, and site cleanup

Skills

• Knowledge of various commercial trucks including front loader, rear loader, and roll-off trucks
• Mechanical knowledge to identify basic truck issues and assist with maintenance tasks
• Strong understanding of traffic laws, DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, and state transportation laws
• Experience with heavy lifting and manual labor required for load & unload tasks
• Familiarity with safety protocol adherence, including hazard materials regulations and air brake systems
• Excellent customer service skills to interact professionally with clients during waste collection activities
• Outdoor work experience that demonstrates reliability in physically demanding environments
• Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles confidently and safely
• Knowledge of solid waste management practices and municipal waste regulations
• Defensive driving skills to ensure safety for yourself, colleagues, and the public during route driving
