When you are not in class you will be eligible to work as a Helping Hand. The Helping Hand position involves providing indirect, non-clinical support and a positive environment for residents in the facility. Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities that do not require direct medical care, maintaining resident rooms, supporting dining and hydration needs, monitoring resident well-being, and assisting where needed to provide support to the team. The role requires adhering strictly to safety, infection control, and resident rights policies while fostering a warm, caring atmosphere.

Class Summary

As a CNA student, you'll acquire the knowledge and hands-on skills to assist residents with their daily needs, from bathing to mealtime and more. It's an emotionally and physically demanding role that demands empathy and a warm, collaborative spirit. At the end of the program, an Arizona State examiner will assess your clinical skills and knowledge, leading you to certification.

While waiting for your state test results you'll be paired with an experienced CNA mentor for your assigned shifts, smoothing your transition from a trainee to a valued team member giving you the opportunity to get a taste of the exciting and collaborative atmosphere while learning your residents.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates should possess a strong understanding of safety rules, infection prevention, and resident rights, along with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Essential skills include following verbal and written instructions, maintaining confidentiality, performing basic arithmetic, and responding calmly to crisis situations. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to maintain effective working relationships with residents, families, and staff.
