About Payne Concrete & Aggregates
Payne Concrete & Aggregates is a growing, family-run concrete and aggregates business based in Doncaster.
We operate a busy fleet supplying ready-mix concrete and aggregates to customers across the region, including drum mixers, volumetric concrete mixers and articulated vehicles.
As the business continues to grow, we're looking for reliable, hardworking HGV Class 1 and Class 2 Drivers who want to become part of the wider team — not simply turn up, drive a wagon and go home.
This would suit someone with a good work ethic who is happy to muck in wherever needed and wants the opportunity to progress as the company grows.
The Role
Your main responsibility will be driving and delivering concrete, aggregates and associated materials safely and professionally to our customers.
However, this is a hands-on position within the wider yard and concrete operation.
When you're not out on deliveries, you'll be expected to get involved with the team in the yard. This could include:
- Filling and producing precast concrete blocks
- Cleaning and maintaining loading bays
- Keeping the yard clean, tidy and organised
- Washing down wagons and concrete equipment
- Assisting with general maintenance
- Helping with loading and unloading
- Cleaning around the concrete plant and operational areas
- Assisting other members of the team wherever required
- General yard and housekeeping duties
We're looking for people who can see what needs doing and get involved rather than waiting to be asked.
There may be days where you're predominantly driving and other days where there is more time spent helping around the yard. Everyone works as part of the same team.
Driving Responsibilities
You'll also be responsible for:
- Safely operating HGV Class 1 or Class 2 vehicles
- Delivering ready-mix concrete, aggregates and construction materials
- Safely discharging concrete where required
- Carrying out daily vehicle checks
- Reporting defects promptly
- Completing delivery paperwork and tachograph records accurately
- Keeping your vehicle clean and presentable
- Communicating professionally with customers, site teams and the office
- Following company and site health & safety procedures
- Taking pride in the vehicle, equipment and workplace
Who We're Looking For
Attitude is just as important to us as experience.
We want somebody who is:
- Hardworking and reliable
- Willing to get their hands dirty
- Happy working as part of a team
- Able to use their initiative
- Proud of their vehicle and workplace
- Flexible about helping with different jobs
- Interested in learning more about the wider concrete and aggregates operation
- Looking for a long-term position rather than simply another driving job
Essential
- HGV Class 2 (Category C) or Class 1 (Category C+E) Licence
- Valid Driver CPC
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card
- Reliable and professional attitude
- Good understanding of vehicle and site safety
Desirable
- Drum mixer experience
- Concrete or aggregates delivery experience
- Experience with volumetric concrete
- Construction or quarry/yard experience
- Experience operating plant or machinery
Don't be put off if you haven't driven a concrete mixer before. Training can be provided for the right person with the correct licence and, most importantly, the right attitude.
Progression Opportunities
We're growing and want people who can grow with us.
For somebody who demonstrates the right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn, there will be opportunities to take on more responsibility within the business.
Depending on the individual, this could include learning different vehicles and equipment, concrete production, volumetric operations, plant and yard operations, supervising others and progressing into more senior operational roles.
If you're the type of person who gets stuck in, learns quickly and wants to progress, we'll give you the opportunity to show what you can do.
What We Offer
- Pay from £15.00 per hour
- Regular and consistent full-time work
- Overtime opportunities
- Weekend work available
- Training on concrete operations and equipment
- Opportunity to learn different parts of the business
- Genuine progression opportunities for the right people
- Friendly, straightforward working environment
- Growing family-run company
- Company pension for eligible PAYE employees
- Free on-site parking
- Long-term career prospects
