HGV Class 1 Driver / HIAB Operator

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver with valid HIAB operator certification to join our team based in Cheddar, Somerset.

The role involves transporting, loading and unloading machinery, plant, fabricated steelwork and other equipment at customer sites. You will work alongside our engineering teams to support deliveries, collections and lifting operations.

Main responsibilities

• Drive Class 1 vehicles safely and professionally.
• Operate the vehicle-mounted HIAB crane safely, within your training and authorisation.
• Load, unload and secure machinery, materials and equipment for transport.
• Carry out daily vehicle and crane checks and report any defects.
• Follow site rules, risk assessments, method statements and lifting plans.
• Complete delivery paperwork and vehicle records accurately.
• Assist engineering teams with equipment deliveries, collections and installations.
• Maintain company vehicles and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.

Essential requirements

• Full HGV Class 1 / Category C+E driving licence.
• Valid Driver CPC and digital tachograph card.
• Valid HIAB / lorry loader operator certification appropriate to the equipment used.
• Previous experience operating a HIAB crane.
• Experience loading and securing loads safely.
• A reliable, practical approach with good communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable qualifications and experience

• Appointed Person training for planning lifting operations.
• Slinger/signaller qualification.
• Experience transporting machinery, plant or fabricated steelwork.
• Experience working on industrial or construction sites.
• Experience supporting engineering and installation teams.
