What they need

Tolchards is a growing drinks distribution business supplying pubs, restaurants, hotels, cafés, clubs and other hospitality venues with an extensive range of wines, spirits, beers, kegs and soft drinks. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic Class 2 HGV Driver to join our team in Torquay.

If you take pride in your work, have a positive attitude and enjoy a role that keeps you active, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

This is a hands-on, physically demanding role involving multi-drop deliveries to a variety of customers across the region. You will be responsible for delivering our customers' orders safely, efficiently and professionally, representing Tolchards at every stop.

Our deliveries can involve handling heavy kegs, cases of wine and spirits, and other drinks products, so good physical stamina, a sensible approach to manual handling and a willingness to get stuck in are essential.

Wherever operationally possible, we will endeavour to have you working alongside a Driver's Mate to support deliveries, share the physical workload and help maintain safe working practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out multi-drop deliveries safely, efficiently and within scheduled delivery times.
  • Loading, unloading and handling drinks products, including kegs, cases and other heavy items.
  • Providing a friendly, professional service to customers at every delivery.
  • Completing vehicle checks and reporting any defects, damage or safety concerns promptly.
  • Following all drivers' hours, tachograph, working time and mandatory rest-break requirements.
  • Wearing the correct PPE and following all manual handling, machinery, vehicle and site safety procedures.
  • Complying with road traffic legislation, company policies and all reasonable management instructions.
  • Ensuring delivery paperwork and relevant records are completed accurately.
  • Taking responsibility for the vehicle, its load and the safety of yourself and others.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with the right attitude as well as the right qualifications. You should be dependable, safety-conscious and prepared to work hard.

Essential requirements:

  • A valid Category C (Class 2) driving licence.
  • A valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC).
  • A valid digital tachograph card.
  • A good understanding of drivers' hours, tachograph rules and road safety requirements.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to undertake regular manual handling as part of the role, with appropriate training and safe working practices.
  • A positive attitude, good timekeeping and a strong work ethic.
  • A commitment to following instructions, company procedures and health and safety requirements.
  • Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

Previous multi-drop delivery experience would be advantageous, although we are particularly interested in people who demonstrate reliability, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to doing the job properly.

Health & Safety Comes First

At Tolchards, health and safety is at the heart of everything we do. Delivering our products efficiently is important, but never at the expense of safety.

We expect our drivers to follow the law and company procedures at all times, including tachograph and drivers' hours rules, required breaks and rest periods, PPE requirements, safe manual handling, vehicle and machinery rules, and all relevant road traffic legislation.

We want people who take these responsibilities seriously, look out for their colleagues and customers, and are confident in raising concerns whenever something is not safe.

Interested?

If you are a hardworking Class 2 Driver with a positive attitude, good stamina and a commitment to safe, professional deliveries, we would love to hear from you.

Apply today and become part of the Tolchards team in Torquay.
