HGV Class 2 Driver - Powered Access

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Transport Manager, the Class 2 HGV Driver is responsible for delivering powered access equipment and associated plant machinery to customers and sites throughout the UK. The role involves the safe loading, unloading, transportation and securing of equipment, ensuring full compliance with road transport legislation, company procedures and health and safety requirements.

The successful candidate will represent the business professionally, providing excellent customer service and maintaining high standards of safety, reliability and vehicle care.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver powered access equipment and associated plant machinery to customer locations and sites throughout the UK.
• Safely load, unload and secure equipment using the appropriate chains, restraints and securing methods.
• Carry out vehicle and equipment inspections before, during and after journeys, reporting any defects, damage or maintenance requirements.
• Ensure all loads are safe, secure and compliant with relevant road transport legislation.
• Comply with drivers’ hours regulations, tachograph requirements and Working Time Regulations.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of deliveries, vehicle checks and any relevant documentation.
• Communicate effectively with the Transport Manager, colleagues, customers and site personnel regarding deliveries, collections and any issues encountered.
• Adhere to company policies, procedures, health and safety standards and operating practices.
• Deliver a high standard of customer service and represent the business in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
• Drive responsibly, considering the safety of other road users, pedestrians and site personnel.
• Maintain the cleanliness, condition and security of the vehicle and associated equipment.
• Work flexibly to meet operational requirements, including travelling throughout the UK and occasional overnight stays where required.

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience driving a Class 2 HGV vehicle
• Experience transporting powered access equipment, plant machinery or similar equipment
• Knowledge of safe loading, unloading and load-securing practices
• Good understanding of road transport legislation, drivers’ hours and tachograph regulations
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• A customer-focused approach with a professional and reliable attitude
• Good awareness of health and safety requirements
• Ability to work independently, manage delivery schedules and resolve issues effectively
• A flexible approach to working hours and travel requirements

Class 2 Driver Qualifications:

• Full UK driving licence with LGV Category C entitlement
• Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC)
• Valid digital tachograph card
• IPAF 1b, 3a and 3b qualifications, or a willingness to obtain them
• Previous experience operating or transporting powered access equipment is advantageous

Please note

• Nights out as and when required with an average of 1-3 per week. Parking paid and night out allowance provided.
• Overtime available at time and a half, plus additional work available.
