O’Hara Bros Surfacing Ltd is a well-established, family-run civil engineering and road surfacing contractor with over 50 years’ experience delivering highway, surfacing and civil engineering projects across London and the surrounding areas.

We work on behalf of local authorities, principal contractors and major infrastructure projects, operating our own extensive fleet of HGVs and specialist vehicles including 32-tonne tippers, grab lorries, low loaders, road sweepers, gully suckers and 7.5-tonne vehicles.

Due to continued workload, we are looking for a reliable and professional HGV Class 2 Tipper Driver to join our team, operating from our yard in Pinner, HA5.

Whether you already have tipper experience or are an experienced Class 2 driver looking to move into the surfacing industry, we are looking for someone who takes pride in their driving, their vehicle and the job they do.

The Role

You’ll be driving one of our 32-tonne Scania tippers, working across a wide range of highway maintenance, resurfacing and civil engineering projects throughout London and the surrounding areas.

Typical duties will include:

• Delivering asphalt directly into road paving machines
• Collecting asphalt/tarmac from plants
• Transporting road planings, aggregates and other materials
• Supporting highway maintenance and resurfacing works
• Tipping safely on highway and construction sites
• Working alongside our experienced surfacing crews
• Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks and reporting defects
• Keeping your vehicle clean, tidy and well looked after
• Ensuring loads are transported safely and securely
• Following site rules and company health and safety procedures
• Maintaining full compliance with Drivers’ Hours, Working Time and tachograph regulations
• Working closely with our site supervisors, operatives and transport team
• Working day or night shifts depending on operational requirements

No two days are necessarily the same, making this an ideal role for a professional driver who enjoys varied work rather than repetitive deliveries.

Working Pattern

This position involves a mixture of day and night work, depending on our contracts and operational requirements.

Day Shifts:
Monday to Friday
Typically 6:30am – 5:00pm

Night Shifts:
Usually starting from approximately 6:00pm, although start and finish times will vary depending on site requirements.

Alternate Saturdays are also available.

Working hours will vary depending on workload, traffic and operational requirements.

We operate within Drivers’ Hours and Working Time regulations using digital tachographs, and expect all drivers to maintain the same professional approach to compliance.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a professional, dependable driver who is safety-conscious, flexible and takes pride in both their vehicle and their work.

You will need:

• Full UK Category C / Class 2 HGV licence
• Valid Driver CPC
• Valid Digital Tachograph Card
• Tipper experience preferred, although not essential
• A good understanding of Drivers’ Hours, Working Time and tachograph regulations
• A good understanding of daily vehicle checks and defect reporting
• Strong awareness of site and road safety
• A professional attitude when dealing with customers, sites and members of the public
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Flexibility to work days, nights and weekends when required
• Good communication skills
• A positive attitude and strong work ethic
• A genuine can-do attitude

Experience

Previous 32-tonne tipper, asphalt or surfacing experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential for the right candidate.

We recognise that good professional HGV drivers may not necessarily have previous surfacing experience. If you have the right attitude, driving standards and approach to safety, training can be provided for the right person.

Experience within construction, highways, surfacing, civils, asphalt or aggregate work would be particularly beneficial.
