We’re recruiting for a leading (not defence) Aerospace business based by Reading. They’re looking for a Power Electronics Test Technician to join their hardware team on a contract basis.

They can offer an immediate start and a high hourly rate. You’ll also get the chance to work on next-generation aerospace programmes.

The role

The main focus is hands-on testing of power electronics hardware, supporting the engineering team through development, verification and acceptance. If you’re comfortable building and running test set-ups, you’ll be able to do that too.

Key responsibilities

  • Set up and run tests on power electronics units, including DC-DC converters, power supplies, battery systems and power distribution units
  • Follow test procedures accurately and record results and observations clearly
  • Build, wire and maintain test rigs, harnesses and bench equipment
  • Carry out functional, performance and environmental testing, including thermal and vibration where required
  • Fault-find and carry out basic repair and rework on hardware under test
  • Flag anomalies and non-conformances and support engineers in investigating them
  • Keep test records, build logs, and calibration and equipment documentation up to date

What we’re looking for

  • Hands-on experience as a test technician working with power electronics or electronic hardware
  • Confident use of oscilloscopes, electronic loads, DMMs and programmable power supplies
  • Good fault-finding skills at board and unit level
  • Ability to read schematics, test procedures and wiring diagrams
  • Strong attention to detail and good record keeping
  • Soldering and rework experience (IPC or ESA/ECSS soldering certification is a bonus)
  • Experience in space, aerospace, defence or another regulated environment is desirable
  • An ONC/HNC or equivalent qualification, or relevant experience

The details

  • Location: Reading (on-site)
  • Rate: Competitive hourly rate
  • IR35 status: Outside IR35
  • Start date: Immediate
