Responsibilities

• Provide real-time interpretation for Hmong-speaking clients during appointments, meetings, and community events, ensuring effective communication between all parties.
• Assist with interpretation for a variety of settings, including healthcare facilities, social services, legal offices, and educational institutions.
• Utilize interpretation techniques such as simultaneous and consecutive interpretation to convey messages accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics at all times, respecting client privacy and cultural sensitivities.
• Support clients in understanding complex information by translating documents or verbal communication into clear, culturally appropriate language.
• Collaborate with staff and community partners to ensure seamless communication flow and cultural competency during interactions.
• Document interpretation sessions as needed and provide feedback to improve service delivery.

Requirements

• Multilingual proficiency in Hmong and English, with strong interpretation skills in both languages.
• Experience with interpretation modalities such as over-the-phone interpretation, simultaneous interpretation, and consecutive interpretation.
• Demonstrated understanding of professional ethics related to confidentiality and impartiality in interpretation services.
• Knowledge of cultural nuances specific to Hmong communities to facilitate respectful and effective communication.
• Excellent communication skills, including active listening and clear verbal expression.
• Familiarity with linguistics principles, translation techniques, and the ability to adapt language for different contexts.
• Ability to work onsite in various community settings with flexibility and professionalism.
• Preferred: Experience with American Sign Language or other foreign languages; background in educational or healthcare interpretation; strong cultural competency skills.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
