Holistic Veterinary Technician/ Assistant Part Time

Holistic Veterinary Technician/ Veterinary Assistant (part-time) at a holistic practice. No emergency, surgery, inpatient or weekends. Minimum 2 years experience as a Technician or assistant. Experience with Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine or Holistic medicine preferred but not required. Experience drawing blood and placing IV and/ or urinary catheters is preferred but not required

Veterinary Healing Arts is seeking a pro-active, self-motivated, organized, compassionate and well-balanced person to join our “family” as a Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech or Veterinary assistant at our St. Pete Beach clinic. This is a part-time position

Holistic Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech / Veterinary Assistant- Responsibilities & Duties

• Knowledge and willingness to learn about natural/ healthy living
• Prepare appointment rooms prior to & after patient visits.
• Complete the initial patient exam and record notations in the patient chart.
• Assist the Veterinarian with routine patient appointments: (a) Be able to properly restrain patients for exam and treatments; (b) able to administer medications as outlined by the Veterinarian including but not limited to: oral supplements, subcutaneous fluids, heart worm, and/ or flea preventatives
• Address patient and vendor phone calls courteously and efficiently
• Knowledgeably review estimates and explain procedures and products with clients
• Communicate with clients, staff and vendors in a clear, concise and professional manner
• Be able to compassionately and knowledgeably communicate medical information to clients and referral clinics
• Fill medications and other natural products accurately and efficiently
• Collect and preserve laboratory samples.

Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech/ Veterinary Assistant - Required Skills & Experience

• 2-3 years’ experience as a veterinary assistant or technician. We will check references.
• Knowledge of gentle and complete animal restraint. Fear-free
• Proficient phlebotomy skills (able to draw blood on dogs and cats) preferable
• Able to place IV catheter- preferable but not required
• Ability to set up and read laboratory samples (fecal, ear and skin cytology, heart worm tests) preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of medical anatomy enough to perform cold laser therapy (previous laser experience is preferred but not mandatory)
• Ability to communicate in a calm and soothing matter
• Self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision
• Able to carry and lift 40 lbs
• Able to multi-task efficiently
• Able to stand on your feet for extended periods of time
• Reliable, dependable and compassionate
• Computer skills required: Understanding of email (we use Gmail)

We prefer that those applying for the Holistic Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech Position have a minimum of two to three years hands-on experience in a clinic or shelter environment.

Applicants for our Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech position do NOT need to have a Certified Veterinary Technician Certification.

Veterinary Healing Arts is a Holistic Veterinary Center dedicated to using Acupuncture, Tui-na, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Cold laser therapy and food therapy to complement conventional Veterinary medicine.
