What they need

HOME & BUSINESS LOCKSMITH TECHNICIAN

C.J. Locksmith Inc. — Royal Oak and Metro Detroit, Michigan

C.J. Locksmith Inc. is hiring an experienced, fully equipped Home & Business Locksmith Technician to handle residential and commercial service calls throughout Metro Detroit.

This is a mobile, commission-based position for an established locksmith who can receive a call, diagnose the complete problem and finish the job from start to final testing without technical supervision, step-by-step guidance or on-site assistance.

This is not an apprentice or entry-level position. You must have at least two years of verifiable professional locksmith experience and be prepared to independently complete the jobs you accept.

COMPENSATION

This position pays 40%–50% commission per completed job.

Your starting percentage will be based on verified experience, equipment, service capabilities, availability, reliability, workmanship and ability to complete calls independently.

The commission structure will be documented in writing before you begin accepting assignments.

SERVICES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You must be experienced and equipped to perform services including:

  • Home, apartment, condominium, office and business lockouts

  • Non-destructive entry

  • Lock changes, repairs, replacements and rekeying

  • Residential and commercial cylinder pinning and servicing

  • Master-key and keyed-alike systems

  • Key cutting and duplication

  • Broken-key extraction

  • Deadbolt, knob, lever, mortise and cylindrical lock service

  • Storefront mortise-cylinder and rim-cylinder service

  • High-security and restricted key-system service when authorized

  • Smart-lock, keypad-lock and standalone electronic-lock installation and programming

  • Strike-plate installation and adjustment

  • Latch, bolt, door and frame alignment

  • Mailbox, desk, cabinet, file-cabinet and storage-lock service

  • Supported safe lockouts and basic safe-lock service

  • Interior and exterior door-hardware diagnosis

  • Security evaluations and practical lock-upgrade recommendations

You will be expected to:

  • Review the property and service details before dispatch.

  • Confirm that you have the equipment, inventory and experience required to complete the job.

  • Contact the customer professionally and provide accurate arrival information.

  • Arrive with the necessary tools, equipment and materials.

  • Verify lawful access or authorization before beginning work.

  • Diagnose whether the problem involves the lock, cylinder, latch, strike, door, frame, key, hardware or programming.

  • Explain the recommended solution and approved pricing.

  • Complete the work independently from diagnosis through final testing.

  • Cut and test all required keys.

  • Confirm that repaired or installed hardware locks, unlocks, latches and operates correctly.

  • Provide accurate notes, photographs and completion documentation.

  • Follow company procedures for dispatch, pricing, communication, payment and job closeout.

  • Protect customer property, remove job-related debris and leave the area clean.

  • Correct workmanship-related callbacks promptly and professionally.

Unsupported hardware, missing equipment, unavailable inventory or technical limitations must be disclosed before dispatch—not after arriving at the property.

COMPLETE-SOLUTION EXPECTATION

You must diagnose and solve the underlying issue instead of addressing only the most obvious symptom.

This includes determining whether a problem is caused by a damaged lock or cylinder, broken key, defective latch or bolt, incorrect strike position, door or frame misalignment, loose or unsuitable hardware, installation error or electronic issue.

Whenever reasonably possible, provide a complete, long-term solution during the assigned visit.

The goal is properly installed, aligned, tested and dependable security hardware—not a temporary repair or unresolved problem.

PARTS AND COMMERCIAL SUPPLIER RUNS

You must be willing and able to drive to C.J. Locksmith’s designated commercial supplier whenever additional locks, cylinders, keys, smart locks, commercial hardware or job-specific materials are required.

You are responsible for identifying the correct approved hardware, confirming the function, size, keyway, handing and finish, picking up the materials, returning to the property, installing and testing the hardware and closing out the job.

The need for an additional part does not automatically make the job incomplete.

When the required material is reasonably available, you must obtain it and return to finish the work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered, you must have:

  • At least two years of verifiable professional home, residential, business or commercial locksmith experience

  • Experience independently completing jobs from diagnosis through final testing

  • Experience installing, changing, repairing and rekeying locks

  • Experience pinning and servicing residential and commercial cylinders

  • Experience cutting and duplicating keys

  • Experience completing home and business lockouts using non-destructive methods

  • Experience creating or maintaining master-key systems

  • Experience installing and programming smart locks or keypad locks

  • Experience diagnosing lock, latch, strike, door and frame-alignment problems

  • Experience servicing common residential and commercial door hardware

  • Experience extracting broken keys

  • Strong mechanical diagnostic and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to identify lock functions, keyways, cylinders, handing, finishes and compatible hardware

  • Ability to accurately measure doors, backsets, bore preparations and replacement components

  • Reliable transportation suitable for mobile locksmith service

  • Ability to travel throughout Royal Oak and the agreed Metro Detroit service area

  • Ability to travel to the company’s supplier when parts or hardware are needed

  • A valid driver’s license and legally required vehicle insurance

  • A reliable smartphone with internet, photography and job-management capabilities

  • Professional communication and respect for customer property, privacy and security

  • Ability to follow access-verification, dispatch, pricing, payment, documentation and closeout procedures

REQUIRED TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

You must already own, maintain or have immediate professional access to the equipment needed to independently complete the jobs you accept.

Your equipment should include, as applicable:

  • Professional picking and non-destructive entry tools

  • Residential and commercial rekeying tools and pinning kits

  • Plug followers, shims, clips and cylinder-service tools

  • Professional key-cutting equipment and common key blanks

  • Key-identification and broken-key extraction tools

  • Lock-installation jigs, templates, drills, drivers, bits and hole saws

  • Mortise, cylindrical, storefront, smart-lock and keypad-lock service tools

  • Door, latch, strike, measuring, leveling and alignment tools

  • Electrical-testing equipment for supported electronic hardware

  • Common screws, fasteners, spindles, tailpieces, cams, locks, cylinders and replacement parts

  • Reliable mobile internet access

  • A secure and professionally maintained mobile service setup

C.J. Locksmith Inc. is not supplying a complete locksmith tool package or providing fundamental locksmith training.

You must already possess the knowledge, equipment and experience necessary to complete assigned work.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Preferred experience includes:

  • Storefront and commercial mortise hardware

  • Interchangeable-core and high-security systems

  • Large master-key systems

  • Panic bars and exit devices

  • Door closers

  • Commercial keypad locks

  • Basic access-control hardware

  • Multi-unit rekeying

  • Tenant-turnover work

  • Door and frame troubleshooting

Clearly disclose which services and hardware types you are currently equipped and qualified to handle.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

When a call is assigned, you should be able to:

  1. Review the reported problem.
  2. Confirm that the service is supported.
  3. Contact the customer professionally.
  4. Arrive prepared.
  5. Verify lawful access or authorization.
  6. Diagnose the complete issue.
  7. Explain the solution and approved pricing.
  8. Obtain any necessary parts or hardware.
  9. Return to the property when a supplier run is required.
  10. Complete the work independently.
  11. Cut and test all required keys.
  12. Confirm proper lock, latch, strike and door alignment.
  13. Test every completed function.
  14. Clean the work area.
  15. Document and properly close out the job.

The objective is a complete, professional home or business locksmith solution—not an unfinished diagnosis, temporary repair, preventable callback or request for basic technical guidance after dispatch.
