About Old Dominion Dumpsters Old Dominion Dumpsters is a growing locally owned dumpster rental company serving the Richmond and surrounding Virginia markets. We're looking for a dependable, mechanically capable Hook Truck Driver to operate our F-550 hook-lift trucks and deliver and retrieve 10-yard and 20-yard dumpsters from residential, commercial, construction, and restoration job sites. This is more than a driving job. We're looking for someone who takes ownership of the truck, equipment, customer experience, and route. If you know how to operate a hook-lift truck, can confidently maneuver into tight spaces, and take pride in maintaining your equipment, we'd like to talk with you. The Job As a Hook Truck Driver, you will be responsible for safely delivering, positioning, picking up, transporting, and unloading dumpsters throughout the Richmond market. You will operate an F-550 hook-lift truck handling primarily 10-yard and 20-yard dumpsters. Daily responsibilities include:

• Deliver and pick up 10-yard and 20-yard dumpsters
• Safely operate the F-550 hook-lift system
• Load and unload dumpsters using the hydraulic hook system
• Properly secure dumpsters and loads for transportation
• Position dumpsters accurately at residential and commercial properties
• Safely maneuver in driveways, construction sites, alleys, parking lots, and tight spaces
• Evaluate placement locations for:
• Overhead wires
• Tree limbs
• Buildings and structures
• Driveway clearance
• Soft ground
• Septic systems
• Other potential hazards
• Communicate with customers regarding dumpster placement and pickup
• Communicate with dispatch and management throughout the day
• Take photographs of dumpster placement and pickup when required
• Complete electronic delivery and pickup documentation
• Obtain and document weight tickets when required
• Follow assigned routes and maximize daily efficiency
• Inspect dumpsters for damage before and after delivery
• Keep the truck, hook system, and equipment clean and organized
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Identify mechanical problems before they become major repairs
• Perform basic preventative maintenance
• Check fluids, tires, lights, brakes, hydraulics, straps, chains, and other equipment
• Report maintenance or safety issues immediately
• Maintain accurate mileage, fuel, maintenance, and route records
• Assist with basic dumpster-yard duties when needed
• Follow all company safety procedures and applicable DOT, OSHA, and traffic requirements

We Are Looking For Someone Who: Has Hook Truck Experience

Previous hook-lift, roll-off, dumpster, tow truck, dump truck, or similar equipment experience is strongly preferred.

Hook-lift experience is a major plus.

However, we are willing to consider someone with strong truck-driving and mechanical experience who demonstrates the ability to learn the hook system.

Is Mechanically Inclined

You don't need to be a diesel mechanic.

But you should be able to recognize when something doesn't sound, look, or operate correctly.

We expect our drivers to take care of their truck rather than simply drive it until something breaks.

Basic mechanical knowledge is strongly preferred.

Can Operate Independently

Our drivers spend much of their day on their own. You need to be able to:

• Read and follow a route
• Manage your time
• Communicate with dispatch
• Make good decisions in the field
• Solve routine problems
• Know when to stop and ask for help
• Represent Old Dominion Dumpsters professionally

Can Back and Maneuver a Truck You will frequently be backing into:

• Residential driveways
• Construction sites
• Commercial properties
• Narrow access points
• Parking lots
• Alleys
• Tight job sites

Being comfortable backing a truck is critical to this position. Technology & Computer Skills This isn't a traditional "sit in a truck all day" position. Drivers will use a phone/tablet and basic computer systems to document their work. You should be comfortable with:

• Smartphone applications
• GPS/navigation
• Email
• Taking and uploading photographs
• Electronic delivery documentation
• Basic Excel
• Basic Microsoft Office
• Entering information accurately into a computer or mobile application

You don't need to be an Excel expert. You simply need to be comfortable entering and retrieving information. Customer Service Our driver is often the only Old Dominion employee the customer meets. You represent the company. We expect our drivers to:

• Treat customers and their property with respect
• Protect driveways and surrounding property
• Keep the job site clean
• Address problems professionally
• Never argue with customers
• Contact management when a customer request creates a safety or operational concern

A great driver can turn a routine dumpster delivery into a great customer experience.

Qualifications Required:

• Valid Virginia driver's license
• Clean or acceptable driving record
• Reliable transportation to and from work
• Ability to pass required employment screening
• Ability to safely operate a large truck
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds
• Ability to climb in and out of the truck repeatedly throughout the day
• Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position
• Dependable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work independently

Preferred:

• Previous hook-lift experience
• Roll-off dumpster experience
• Class B CDL
• DOT medical card
• Commercial driving experience

• Towing experience
