Duties

• Operate horizontal directional drilling machines to install underground utilities such as water, sewer, gas, and electrical lines
• Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of construction machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance
• Coordinate with project managers, utility locators, and other construction team members to plan and execute drilling operations effectively
• Utilize utility locating equipment to accurately identify existing underground infrastructure before drilling begins
• Follow all federal construction safety regulations and equipment safety procedures diligently throughout each project phase
• Assist with construction site setup, including grading, excavation, loader operation, backhoe operation, and excavator use as needed
• Maintain detailed records of daily operations, safety checks, and equipment maintenance logs

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating heavy construction machinery such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, and directional drills in a construction environment
• Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to perform basic maintenance on construction equipment
• Familiarity with utility locating techniques and tools to prevent damage during drilling operations
• Valid commercial driver’s license with experience in commercial truck driving preferred
• Knowledge of federal construction safety regulations and adherence to all safety protocols on-site
• Construction site experience with utility work, excavation, grading, and utility installation projects
• Ability to operate heavy equipment safely while maintaining productivity standards
• Construction experience involving utility installation or directional drilling is highly desirable
