Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will operate specialized horizontal drilling equipment to install underground utilities with precision and efficiency. Your expertise will ensure the successful completion of utility installation projects while adhering to safety standards and project specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse construction sites, utilizing your mechanical knowledge and heavy equipment operation skills to deliver quality results.

Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal directional drilling machines safely and efficiently, ensuring accurate alignment and depth control for underground utility installations.
• Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of construction machinery, including excavators, loaders, backhoes, and other heavy equipment, following safety procedures.
• Follow federal construction safety regulations and equipment safety procedures at all times to maintain a safe work environment.
• Coordinate with team members to execute construction utility work, including installation of pipelines, cables, and conduits beneath roadways or other obstacles.
• Perform construction site tasks such as backhoe operation and loader handling to support project progress.
• Maintain detailed records of equipment maintenance, operational logs, and safety compliance documentation throughout each project.

Experience

• Proven experience operating horizontal directional drills in a construction or utility environment.
• Strong background in heavy equipment operation including excavators, loaders and backhoes.
• Knowledge of construction utility work, excavation techniques, and construction site safety regulations.
• Familiarity with utility locating methods and federal safety standards related to construction projects.
• Valid commercial driver’s license with experience in commercial truck driving is required.
• Mechanical aptitude for maintenance of construction machinery to ensure optimal performance throughout projects.

Pay is based on experience.

Pay: $27.50 - $36.00 per hour
