Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating specialized drilling equipment to install underground utilities with precision and safety. Your expertise will help ensure efficient project execution while adhering to all safety regulations and industry standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse construction projects, utilizing your skills in heavy equipment operation and utility installation.

Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal directional drilling machinery to install underground utilities such as water, sewer, electrical, and telecommunications lines with accuracy and efficiency.
• Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of construction machinery, including excavators, loaders, backhoes, and Caterpillar equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety compliance.
• Utilize utility locating tools and techniques to accurately identify existing underground infrastructure before drilling begins, preventing damage or service disruptions.
• Follow all federal construction safety regulations and equipment safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and team members.
• Assist with excavation, construction grading, and site preparation activities as needed to support drilling operations.
• Maintain detailed records of daily operations, equipment usage, safety checks, and project progress reports.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades to ensure seamless workflow and timely project completion.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating heavy construction machinery such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, and specifically horizontal directional drills.
• Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to perform basic maintenance on construction equipment.
• Familiarity with construction utility work, excavation techniques, and construction site safety protocols.
• Valid commercial driver’s license with experience in commercial truck driving; ability to operate trucks for transporting equipment is preferred.
• Knowledge of federal construction safety regulations and adherence to all safety procedures on-site.
• Experience with utility locating tools and methods for underground infrastructure detection.
• Construction experience in grading, utility installation, or related fields is highly desirable.
