Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

NGT installs Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure for Department of Transportation projects, including fiber optic backbone, conduit, traffic signals and roadside devices. We're hiring an experienced Directional Bore Operator to join our underground construction crews.

What You'll Do

• Operate horizontal directional drills (Vermeer, Ditch Witch or similar) to install conduit and fiber along highways and DOT right-of-way
• Plan bore paths using construction plans, locate marks and site conditions
• Work closely with locators to avoid damage to existing utilities
• Install conduit, innerduct and handholes/pull boxes to DOT specifications
• Manage drilling fluid mixing, containment and cleanup
• Do daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
• Follow DOT safety, traffic control and work zone requirements
• Keep accurate bore logs and as-built records

Requirements

• 2+ years of directional drilling experience (ITS, telecom, fiber or utility work preferred)
• Able to read construction plans and specs
• Understanding of utility locating and safe-digging practices
• Valid driver's license (CDL Class A preferred)
• Able to work outdoors in all weather and lift up to 50 lbs
• Must pass a drug screen and background check

Preferred

• CDL Class A
• Work zone / flagger certification
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
• Experience on state DOT projects
• Experience running a bore crew

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
