Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

Job Summary

As a Horizontal Directional Drill Operator, you’ll operate drilling and supporting equipment to install underground utilities while keeping work accurate, efficient, and safe. You’ll coordinate with the crew to locate existing utilities, prepare the work area, and complete excavation and drilling tasks. Your impact: Careful utility locating and controlled drilling help protect the crew, the public, and existing infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal directional drills and heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, loaders, and water trucks, as assigned.
• Support construction utility work through excavation, construction grading, and site preparation.
• Locate and verify existing utilities before drilling; communicate findings and changing site conditions to the crew.
• Follow equipment safety procedures, applicable safety regulations, and federal construction safety regulations.
• Inspect, clean, and maintain drilling equipment, construction machinery, and commercial trucks; report defects promptly.

Experience

• Construction experience, including construction site experience or construction utility work, is valuable.
• Mechanical knowledge and experience with equipment maintenance are preferred.
• Commercial driving or commercial truck driving experience is preferred.
• Experience operating heavy equipment, loaders, excavators, backhoes, Caterpillar machinery, or water trucks is an asset.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and work collaboratively outdoors in changing construction conditions is required.

Pay: $26.28 - $35.00 per hour
