Horticulture Supervisor

We're looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Horticultural Supervisor to help lead the day-to-day operation of our thriving plant area and shop. If you have a passion for plants, enjoy delivering exceptional customer service and have experience supervising a team, we'd love to hear from you.

A good level of plant or horticultural knowledge would be advantageous, as would previous experience working with plants, gardening or within a garden centre or nursery environment. You don't need to be a horticultural expert, however, as the right person will have the enthusiasm and willingness to develop their knowledge on the job.

Working closely with the General Manager, you'll play a key role in ensuring our plant area and shop are beautifully presented, well stocked and maintained to a high horticultural standard, while offering an outstanding experience for every customer. This is a hands-on role where you'll lead by example, support colleagues and help drive sales through excellent plant care, horticultural knowledge, merchandising and customer service.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

• Supervising the daily operation of the plant area and shop, ensuring plants and products are well presented, fully stocked and maintained to a high horticultural and retail standard.
• Carrying out and overseeing plant care, including watering, feeding, pruning, deadheading and general maintenance to keep plants healthy, well presented and sale-ready.
• Creating attractive horticultural and retail displays, supporting seasonal promotions and ensuring plants and products are accurately priced and labelled.
• Receiving plant and retail deliveries, monitoring stock levels and maintaining accurate stock records using our EPOS system.
• Ensuring new plant deliveries are correctly checked, positioned, watered and cared for to maintain their quality and condition.
• Delivering exceptional customer service, providing knowledgeable advice on plants, gardening, plant care and related products, and helping customers make the right choices for their needs.
• Supervising and supporting the plant area and shop team by allocating daily tasks, leading by example and helping maintain high horticultural, presentation and customer service standards throughout the department.
• Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment, ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
• Supporting the wider garden centre team during busy trading periods and assisting with the smooth day-to-day operation of the business.
• Working closely with the management team to ensure the horticultural department operates smoothly and effectively.

Key Skills & Requirements We're looking for someone who has:

• Previous experience in a plant-focused garden centre, nursery or horticultural environment would be advantageous.
• A good understanding of plants, gardening and horticultural products, or a genuine interest in developing this knowledge.
• Previous supervisory or team-leading experience, with the ability to motivate and support others.
• Experience using EPOS systems and stock management processes.
• Excellent customer service skills and confidence in advising customers on plant selection, plant care, gardening and related products.
• Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail, particularly when managing plant stock and maintaining high horticultural standards.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• A willingness to learn and develop your horticultural knowledge on the job. While some existing plant knowledge or experience would be advantageous, full horticultural expertise is not essential.
• Good understanding of health and safety practices within a horticultural and retail environment.
