What they need
ABOUT KATA NORI:
At Kata Nori, we believe exceptional hospitality is about more than great food and service. It's about creating an experience that feels thoughtful, welcoming, and memorable.
Every detail of our restaurant is intentional, from the quality of our ingredients and the presentation of our dishes to the atmosphere we create and the way we make our guests feel. We take our craft seriously, but never ourselves too seriously. Our approach to hospitality is polished yet approachable, professional yet personable.
We're looking for a Host who shares that philosophy and understands the importance of making every guest feel genuinely welcomed and appreciated.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As the first and last point of contact for our guests, the Host plays one of the most important roles in shaping the Kata Nori experience.
A warm welcome sets the tone for everything that follows, while a thoughtful farewell leaves a lasting impression. We see these moments not simply as responsibilities, but as opportunities to create meaningful connections with our guests.
Beyond greeting and seating, the Host serves as the conductor of the front-of-house operation, helping orchestrate the rhythm and flow of service throughout the shift.
This requires someone who can see the bigger picture. Someone who understands how reservations, seating arrangements, guest pacing, and communication between team members all work together to create a seamless experience.
The ideal candidate is personable, organized, observant, and composed under pressure. They can balance the logistics of a busy restaurant while never losing sight of the people at the center of it all.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Guest Experience & Hospitality
- Welcome every guest with warmth, sincerity, and genuine enthusiasm.
- Create an exceptional first impression that reflects Kata Nori's hospitality standards.
- Recognize returning guests and help create a sense of familiarity and connection.
- Manage guest expectations with grace, especially during busy periods or unexpected delays.
- Ensure every guest receives a thoughtful and appreciative farewell.
- Handle guest questions, concerns, and special requests with professionalism and care.
2. Service Flow & Organization
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, waitlists, and seating arrangements efficiently.
- Coordinate seating to maintain a balanced and consistent flow of service.
- Anticipate how seating decisions affect the kitchen, sushi chefs, servers, and overall guest experience.
- Communicate clearly with the front-of-house team to maintain awareness of table availability, guest needs, and service pacing.
- Monitor the dining room throughout the shift, adjusting plans as circumstances change.
- Maintain accurate reservation information, including guest preferences and special occasions.
- Help maximize seating efficiency without compromising the quality of the guest experience.
3. Team Communication & Awareness
- Serve as a central point of communication for the front-of-house team.
- Maintain situational awareness of the entire dining room, anticipating needs before they become problems.
- Work collaboratively with management, servers, and sushi chefs to ensure smooth operations.
- Remain calm, adaptable, and solution-oriented during high-volume service.
- Take ownership of the host station and contribute to the overall organization and professionalism of the restaurant.
What We're Looking For:
- A naturally warm, engaging personality with a genuine passion for hospitality.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence interacting with guests and coworkers.
- The ability to think ahead, anticipate challenges, and make thoughtful decisions in real time.
- Composure and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and awareness of how small actions influence the overall guest experience.
- A team-first mentality and willingness to support others.
- Reliability, accountability, and pride in one's work.
- Previous restaurant or hospitality experience is preferred, but personality, attitude, and willingness to learn are equally important.
We're not simply looking for someone to manage the door. We're looking for someone who can help set the tone, guide the flow, and elevate the entire guest experience.
If you take pride in creating memorable experiences, thrive in an energetic environment, and believe hospitality is both an art and a responsibility, we'd love to meet you.
