Job Summary

The Purple Pig Restaurant is seeking a friendly, organized, and hospitality-focused Host / Hostess to create a welcoming first impression for every guest. The Host / Hostess will greet guests, manage reservations and waitlists, coordinate seating, answer guest inquiries, and support the front-of-house team during service. The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a busy restaurant environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome guests warmly and provide professional, attentive service upon arrival.
• Manage reservations, waitlists, walk-ins, and table assignments using the restaurant's reservation system.
• Escort guests to tables and provide menus and relevant dining information.
• Monitor dining-room capacity and coordinate seating to maintain smooth guest flow.
• Communicate guest preferences, celebrations, dietary needs, accessibility requests, and special occasions to the service team.
• Answer telephone calls and respond to reservation and restaurant inquiries professionally.
• Provide accurate information about menu items, dining policies, operating hours, and special events.
• Coordinate with servers, managers, bartenders, runners, and kitchen staff to ensure efficient service.
• Provide accurate wait-time estimates and communicate updates to waiting guests.
• Maintain an organized and welcoming host stand throughout each shift.
• Prepare menus, seating areas, and front-of-house supplies for service.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of entrances, waiting areas, and guest-service spaces.
• Assist guests with seating preferences and reasonable requests.
• Monitor table availability and communicate changes to servers and management.
• Handle guest questions and routine concerns professionally and escalate issues when necessary.
• Assist with opening, closing, cleaning, and side-work duties.
• Support private events, large parties, special dinners, and high-volume service periods.
• Follow restaurant safety, sanitation, and customer-service policies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous host, hostess, restaurant, hospitality, retail, or customer-service experience is preferred but not required.
• Friendly, professional, and welcoming personality.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to remain calm and professional during busy service periods.
• Basic computer and reservation-system skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate information handling.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak dining periods.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in a high-volume, upscale-casual, or full-service restaurant.
• Familiarity with reservation platforms and guest-management systems.
• Knowledge of food, wine, cocktails, and restaurant service.
• Strong guest-service and problem-solving abilities.
• Professional telephone and communication skills.
• Experience managing waitlists and high-volume guest arrivals.
• Food Handler Certification is an asset where applicable.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
• Ability to work effectively with servers, managers, bartenders, and kitchen teams.
• Passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
