Job Summary

Yanagi Sushi is seeking a friendly, welcoming, and dependable Host / Hostess to be the first point of contact for guests. The successful candidate will greet and seat guests, manage reservations and waitlists, coordinate with the service team, maintain an organized entrance area, and help create a smooth and welcoming dining experience.

The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, a professional appearance and attitude, and the ability to remain organized and friendly during busy service periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome guests warmly and provide friendly, professional service
• Greet guests promptly upon arrival and assist with seating
• Manage reservations, waitlists, and table assignments
• Provide accurate wait-time information and communicate updates to guests
• Escort guests to tables and provide menus as needed
• Coordinate with servers, managers, and kitchen staff to maintain smooth service
• Answer questions about menu items, restaurant policies, and available seating
• Handle guest requests and concerns in a polite and professional manner
• Monitor dining-room flow and assist with efficient table turnover
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming host station and entrance area
• Answer phones and assist with reservation or general restaurant inquiries
• Assist with takeout or front-of-house duties when needed
• Support team members during busy service periods
• Follow restaurant, food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures
• Assist with opening, closing, and daily front-of-house duties
• Perform additional responsibilities assigned by restaurant management

Requirements

• Previous host/hostess, restaurant, hospitality, or guest-service experience preferred but not required
• Friendly, professional, and guest-focused attitude
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain organized in a fast-paced restaurant environment
• Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
• Basic knowledge of reservations or POS systems is a plus
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Professional appearance and positive attitude
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36.0 per week
