Hostel Manager

About the role

The Hostel Manager is responsible for the overall operation, commercial performance, guest experience, team leadership, and profitability of the hostel. The role requires a hands-on hospitality leader who understands the unique dynamics of hostel and social hospitality, including dormitory operations, international guests, events, nightlife, activities, F&B, community building, and high-volume periods. The Hostel Manager will ensure the property delivers an energetic, safe, clean, and memorable guest experience while maintaining strong operational discipline and financial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all daily operations of the hostel and ensure smooth coordination between Front Office, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Experience, F&B, and Security
• Conduct regular property inspections and ensure rooms, dormitories, bathrooms, common areas, and facilities are maintained to the required standard
• Create a welcoming, social, and engaging environment for guests and manage the guest journey effectively from arrival to departure
• Monitor guest reviews, satisfaction, complaints, and feedback, and lead effective service recovery
• Work closely with the Experience Manager to deliver the property's event calendar and support parties, pub crawls, social activities, excursions, and other guest experiences
• Ensure efficient check-in and check-out procedures and support upselling of room upgrades, activities, events, and other services
• Monitor occupancy, ADR, revenue per available bed, total revenue, F&B revenue, event revenue, and ancillary revenue
• Take responsibility for property-level operating costs and monitor expenses against budget
• Recruit, train, coach, and develop hostel team members and establish clear expectations and performance standards
• Ensure the property operates in accordance with applicable health, safety, fire, and security requirements

About you

• Minimum 3–5 years of hospitality experience
• Previous experience as a Hostel Manager, Assistant Hostel Manager, Hotel Manager, Operations Manager, or equivalent
• Previous hostel or lifestyle hospitality experience is strongly preferred
• Experience managing international guests and multicultural teams
• Experience with events, nightlife, F&B, or social experiences is a strong advantage
• Strong understanding of hostel operations and guest experience
• Commercially aware with a good understanding of hotel/hostel KPIs
• Strong leadership and people-management skills
• Good English communication skills
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
