Hostel Manager

Location: Hammersmith, London
Salary: £38,000 per annum (pro rata)
Contract: Initial 6-month fixed-term contract, with potential for extension
Hours: Full-time, with flexibility to meet operational needs

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, proactive, and hands-on Manager to oversee the daily running of hostel in Hammersmith.

This is a practical, site-based role requiring someone who is actively involved in daily operations, takes ownership of issues and ensures the hostel runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing staff, dealing with guests, coordinating contractors, and resolving operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the hostel.
• Lead, supervise and support the reception team, including rotas, attendance, training and performance.
• Be actively involved in daily operations, stepping in to assist the team when required.
• Handle guest complaints, incidents, and operational issues promptly and professionally.
• Monitor bookings, occupancy, and payments.
• Liaise directly with contractors and maintenance providers, arrange repairs and coordinate site visits.
• Actively chase outstanding maintenance works and ensure issues are resolved within agreed timescales.
• Carry out regular property inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
• Oversee housekeeping standards and work closely with the cleaning team.
• Ensure all health and safety, fire safety, security, and operational procedures are followed.
• Maintain accurate records of incidents, maintenance, and daily operations.
• Provide regular updates to senior management and escalate significant issues when necessary.

Requirements

• Previous operational management experience within a hostel, budget hotel, or similar hospitality environment.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• A practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to get involved in all aspects of hostel operations.
• Experience coordinating contractors and managing maintenance issues.
• Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and take ownership of problems.
• Flexible and reliable, with the ability to respond to operational needs.
