About The Vita Brevis Club
The Vita Brevis Club is a private members' art club and cultural hub — a gathering place for artists, entrepreneurs, performers, and patrons alike. Our front-of-house team brings this vision to life, delivering a warm, polished, and attentive experience from a member's first hello to their last goodbye across dining, private gatherings, and member programming.
Position Summary
The Host/Hostess is the first and last point of contact for members and their guests, setting the tone for the VBC experience. Working closely with front-of-house leadership, this role manages reservations across dining, private gatherings, and member programming, while keeping the club's public spaces polished, organized, and welcoming at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet members and guests warmly upon arrival, and thank them personally as they depart.
- Manage reservations, tours, and seating arrangements across dining service, private gatherings, and member programming (e.g., themed evenings, member socials).
- Respond to inquiries with accurate, professional information about the club and upcoming programming.
- Communicate proactively with servers, kitchen, and management to keep service flowing smoothly.
- Monitor the club and lobby to anticipate member needs and resolve concerns promptly and calmly, escalating to management when appropriate.
- Support move-in and move-out logistics for private gatherings, coordinating with the events and AV teams as needed.
- Speak knowledgeably about upcoming programming so members and guests feel invited to participate.
Cleanliness & Facility Standards
- Keep the club tidy and free of clutter throughout each shift.
- Maintain menus, stanchions, and front-of-house materials so they are clean, current, and presentable.
- Do a regular walk of public-facing spaces to catch and address any cleanliness or maintenance issues.
- Flag any facility or upkeep concerns to management right away.
- Assist in resetting front-of-house areas between services and gatherings.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in hospitality or customer service required; private club or fine dining experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm, professional presence under pressure.
- Comfort de-escalating minor member concerns with poise, and knowing when to bring in management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with reservation and POS systems is a plus.
- A warm, outgoing personality with genuine enthusiasm for hospitality and member engagement.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and select private gatherings.
Working Conditions
- Extended periods of standing and walking during service.
- Member-facing environment requiring consistent poise and professionalism.
- Wednesday–Saturday, with flexibility for private events
