Position Summary:

Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel is seeking phenomenal Host/Matre'd for our Wheeltapper Pub & Patio!

This role brings together gracious hospitality and hands-on leadership. The Host/Maître d’ sets the tone for the guest experience, from managing reservations and creating a warm welcome to being an engaging presence on the floor. They’ll touch tables, step in with thoughtful service recovery, support opening and closing procedures, complete staff checkouts, and help keep the restaurant running seamlessly from the first arrival to the final farewell.

Job Description:

Main Duties

• Welcome every guest with warmth and professionalism.
• Manage reservations, walk-ins, waitlists, and seating strategy using sound judgment and thoughtful pacing.
• Build relationships with regular guests while recognizing special occasions and opportunities to create memorable experiences.
• Conduct table touches throughout service to ensure guest satisfaction.
• Resolve guest concerns with professionalism and urgency, partnering with management when appropriate.
• Maintain an organized, polished, and welcoming entrance at all times.

Floor Leadership

• Serve as a visible hospitality leader throughout the restaurant.
• Support the team in leading smooth and efficient service.
• Monitor restaurant flow and communicate seating pace with the kitchen, bar, and service teams.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures.
• Conduct sanitation checks throughout the restaurant.
• Complete nightly server checkouts and cash reconciliation.
• Support the coaching and development of service staff through daily feedback and examples.

Operations

• Answer phones and assist guests with reservations and inquiries.
• Coordinate arrivals for private dining events and special experiences.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout guest-facing spaces.
• Communicate guest feedback, VIP arrivals, and operational needs to the Department Head.
• Uphold our standards of hospitality, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Preferred Experience:

• 1–3 years of hospitality experience.
• NYC Restaurant experience preferred.
• Experience as a Host, Lead Host, Maître d', or Floor Supervisor preferred.
• Experience using reservation platforms.
• Experience opening and closing a restaurant, completing cash reconciliation, and supporting daily floor operations is preferred.
• Wine knowledge or a genuine interest in food and beverage is strongly preferred.
