Position overview

We are seeking an experienced hotel General Manager with a proven ability to lead a successful operation, improve guest satisfaction, and deliver strong financial results. This role requires a visible, hands-on leader who develops associates, holds department leaders accountable, and ensures that every department consistently meets Marriott brand and service expectations.

The General Manager oversees the hotel’s daily operations, financial planning, revenue growth, staffing, and physical condition. Working closely with ownership, management, HR, sales, and revenue management, this leader translates business goals into clear priorities and follows through on results.

Hotel operations and brand standards

Direct front office, housekeeping, maintenance, and food and beverage operations; coordinate departments to deliver a clean, safe, well-maintained hotel and a consistent guest experience.

Conduct daily property inspections, review arrivals and room readiness, address service gaps, and ensure staffing and supplies support expected business levels.

Maintain Marriott brand standards, required training, and quality assurance readiness; develop corrective action plans and verify that deficiencies are resolved.

Review daily operating reports, shift communication, and unresolved issues; establish clear procedures and ensure reliable follow-through across all shifts.

Guest satisfaction and service recovery

Build a guest-focused culture through visible leadership, regular guest interaction, and coaching on professional, responsive service.

Monitor guest satisfaction scores, online reviews, and recurring concerns; identify root causes and implement measurable improvements.

Resolve escalated guest complaints promptly and professionally, documenting follow-up and balancing guest satisfaction with hotel policies.

Financial performance and labor management

Prepare and manage operating budgets and forecasts with ownership and management; review profit and loss statements and explain variances with practical action plans.

Control payroll, overtime, purchasing, inventory, and operating expenses while maintaining appropriate service levels and hotel condition.

Align schedules with occupancy and business demand; review payroll registers for accurate hours, rates, paid time off, and earnings before submission.

Maintain effective cash handling, purchasing, invoice review, and accounts receivable controls; monitor outstanding balances and support timely collection.

Build relationships with local businesses, corporate accounts, community organizations, and repeat guests to generate new and returning business.

Team leadership and human resources

Recruit, interview, onboard, train, and retain qualified associates; develop department leaders and support cross-training and succession planning.

Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular team meetings, provide timely feedback, and address performance concerns with HR guidance.

Ensure hiring documentation, I-9 verification, required training, personnel changes, and payroll approvals are completed accurately and on time.

Maintain a respectful workplace and apply company policies consistently; promptly report employee concerns, incidents, injuries, and accommodation or leave requests to HR.

Property care and management communication

Oversee preventive maintenance, room availability, equipment reliability, and timely completion of repairs; coordinate vendors and approved improvement projects.

Maintain safety, security, emergency response, and incident reporting procedures; address hazards promptly and support required inspections.

Provide ownership and management with accurate reports on financial results, staffing, guest satisfaction, maintenance needs, and corrective actions; escalate significant issues promptly.

Required qualifications

Previous hotel General Manager experience with a demonstrated record of successful operations, strong guest satisfaction, team development, and financial performance.

Strong working knowledge of hotel profit and loss statements, budgeting, forecasting, labor management, revenue management, and internal controls.

Strong communication, coaching, conflict resolution, organizational, and computer skills; proficiency with hotel operating systems, reporting tools, and spreadsheets.

Preferred qualifications

Marriott or Courtyard leadership experience, familiarity with Marriott systems and quality assurance processes, and experience growing local corporate and group business are strongly preferred. A degree in hospitality management, business, or a related field is preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Schedule and work environment

This is a full-time, on-site hotel leadership position requiring flexibility for evenings, weekends, holidays, and urgent operational needs. The role includes regular movement throughout the property and direct interaction with guests and associates. Essential duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
