Hotel Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician at the Residence Inn Pittsburgh Oakland University Place performs hands-on maintenance, repair, and preventive upkeep tasks across all areas of the property. Working under the direction of the Maintenance Engineer, this role responds to work orders, guest requests, and property maintenance needs, ensuring the hotel operates safely and in compliance with NSLM and Marriott brand standards.

Responsibilities

• Complete assigned work orders for repair and maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities in a timely and professional manner.
• Participate in the preventive maintenance program for guest rooms, HVAC units, ice machines, refrigerators, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, pool and spa, exhaust fans, and other equipment per the scheduled PM program.
• Perform trade work including carpentry, painting, plumbing, tile repair, vinyl repair, tub caulking, and minor furniture repair to maintain property appearance standards.
• Respond promptly to guest room maintenance requests, ensuring issues are resolved with minimal disruption to guests.
• Immediately follow up on any alarms to determine exact location and cause; assess emergency status and report findings to the Front Desk.
• Point out and assist in eliminating safety hazards; report emergencies and unusual situations immediately to the Maintenance Engineer.
• Perform periodic exterior and grounds inspections for debris removal; checking lighting and irrigation.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of meeting or event space as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the maintenance shop and all storage areas.
• Complete all required maintenance request forms and work order documentation daily.
• Assist with Housekeeping or guest concerns related to maintenance if needed.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Vocational training or trade certification in a related field preferred (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry).
• Pool and spa chemical certification (CPO — Certified Pool Operator, or equivalent) required within 60 days of hire; certification must be maintained as a condition of employment.
• Minimum 1–3 years of experience in hotel, building, or facilities maintenance preferred.
• Prior experience in a Marriott-branded property a plus.
• Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical building systems.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently on assigned tasks.
• Must be effective at listening to and clarifying issues raised by co-workers and guests.
• Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations.
• Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools applicable to building maintenance trades.
• Ability to operate two-way radio and follow proper radio communication etiquette.
• Basic proficiency with work order management systems or maintenance tracking software.
• Working knowledge of hotel electronic lock and key systems, including battery replacement, mechanical key override and emergency entry procedures, and basic troubleshooting.

Saturday, Sunday: 8am-4pm

Mon to Wed: 1pm-9pm
