Housekeeper

Join Our Outstanding and Award-Winning Team at Treehouse Nursery Schools, Wanstead!

Treehouse Nursery Schools in East London is delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a reliable, proactive, and hardworking Housekeeper to join our outstanding nursery team.

As a UNICEF Rights Respecting Nursery committed to fostering children’s personal, emotional, and social development, we understand the importance of providing a clean, safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for every child, family, and member of staff.

At Treehouse, we are proud to be a Rights Respecting Nursery School, embedding the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into every aspect of our practice. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety within an early years setting.

About the Role

As part of our outstanding setting, you will play an important role in maintaining a clean, organised, and safe environment for children and staff. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining cleanliness: Keeping the nursery clean, tidy, and hygienic throughout the day, including communal areas, staff areas, and other designated spaces.
  • Toilet and bathroom hygiene: Ensuring children's toilets, bathrooms, and changing areas are cleaned regularly and maintained to a high standard of hygiene.
  • Laundry duties: Washing, drying, folding, and organising nursery laundry, including bedding, towels, bibs, and other items as required.
  • Washing up: Supporting the kitchen team with washing up, cleaning dishes and utensils, and keeping washing-up areas clean and organised.
  • Delivery support: Assisting with the receipt, unloading, checking, and safe storage of food deliveries, supplies, and other nursery items.
  • Toy and equipment cleaning: Regularly cleaning and sanitising toys, play equipment, and frequently touched surfaces to help prevent the spread of germs and maintain children's safety.
  • Garden and outdoor areas: Ensuring the garden and outdoor play areas remain clean, tidy, and free from rubbish, debris, and other potential hazards.
  • Health and safety: Identifying and reporting hazards, spillages, damaged equipment, and maintenance issues promptly to help maintain a safe environment for children and staff.
  • Stock and supplies: Monitoring cleaning products, laundry supplies, and general housekeeping stock, reporting when items need replenishing.
  • Safe cleaning practices: Using cleaning products and equipment safely, following COSHH guidance, and ensuring all cleaning materials are stored securely and out of children's reach.
  • Teamwork: Working collaboratively with nursery practitioners, kitchen staff, and management to support the smooth running of the nursery throughout the day.
  • General housekeeping: Supporting additional cleaning and housekeeping tasks as needed to ensure the nursery remains welcoming, organised, and ready for daily activities.

Why Join Treehouse Nursery Schools?

This role is more than a housekeeping position — it is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to children's health, wellbeing, and everyday experiences.

You will be joining a growing organisation with ambitious goals and a compassionate ethos, where every member of the team plays an important part in creating a positive, nurturing, and safe environment for children to learn and grow.

The nursery is conveniently located just moments from Wanstead Station (Central Line), with multiple bus routes stopping directly outside for easy commuting.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for a Housekeeper who has:

  • Previous cleaning, housekeeping, or general maintenance experience, ideally within a nursery, school, healthcare, care, or hospitality setting.
  • A good understanding of cleanliness, hygiene, and health and safety practices.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks efficiently.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to identify tasks that need completing without constant supervision.
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
  • A reliable, flexible, and hardworking attitude.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly, professional approach when working alongside colleagues, children, and families.
  • An understanding of the importance of safeguarding, infection prevention, and maintaining a safe environment for young children.
  • A willingness to undertake relevant training, including health and safety, cleaning procedures, and safeguarding.

Previous experience in an early years setting would be advantageous, but we also welcome applications from individuals with transferable skills and a genuine commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
