Housekeeper

The housekeeper performs duties to maintain cleanliness and neatness of household surroundings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

• maintains clean spaces in the household, including resident rooms, household common spaces, support spaces and equipment

• maintains supply of all materials to meet resident needs in the household

-supports all aspects of the household environment, including pets and plants.

-coordinates work with the household caregivers to ensure the housekeeping needs of the household are met within the staffing resources of the household

• complies with all regulatory sanitation requirements pertinent to the physical environment

• uses appropriate cleaning supplies and equipment to clean floors, furniture, bathrooms and other areas as needed

• understands and implements universal precautions to prevent transmission of disease through contamination

• facilitates meaningful conversations and maintains a warm, pleasant atmosphere with elders

• meets all resident and household needs by actively assisting (to the extent of cross training and certification) in all tasks to meet identified needs

• Supports residents in self-care and ensures resident’s personal laundry is maintained in quality condition

• Other duties as assigned

Leadership: Understands the significant impact, a clean environment has on residents’ sense of well-being. Uses time spent doing housekeeping chores in proximity to residents as an opportunity to connect and observe.

Critical Thinking: Able to evaluate housekeeping needs and apply appropriate cleaning materials and / or equipment. Able to organize routines in logical manner that does not impede household life. Is able to organize storage areas in a logical manner, and stocks supplies appropriately to maintain adequate inventory.

Taking the Initiative: Beyond scheduled cleaning tasks, remains alert to sporadic situations that require attention. Initiates positive conversations with residents while performing tasks in their vicinity, and remains observant of resident behaviors throughout tasks.

Experience in skilled care or residential services for the elderly desirable. High school diploma or GED desirable but not essential. Able to operate department specific equipment and to use cleaning products appropriately.

All staff are expected to maintain the confidentiality of resident information.

Remember to knock before entering a resident’s room. Honor the resident’s personal and property rights. Inform the resident when it is necessary to move personal possessions during cleaning/laundry process.

Works in well-lighted and well-ventilated areas.

Moves intermittently during working hours

Is subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule tasks.

Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors and family members.

Communicates with team members of the neighborhood, as well as other department personnel.

Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions, such as severe weather, evacuation and disasters.

Attends and participates in continuing education programs.

Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment and cuts throughout the work day, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants and other air contaminants.

Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.

Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with the residents and personnel.

Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility.

Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 10 feet.

May be called to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
