What they need

About Scene

Scene is a growing architectural practice with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality residential and mixed-use developments across the UK.

Whilst residential development remains a core part of our portfolio, we are increasingly working directly with contractors, developers and delivery teams on complex mixed-use schemes incorporating residential, retail, commercial and community uses. As our workload continues to grow, we are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Housing Architect to strengthen our residential team and play a key role in the future development of the practice.

The Role

We are looking for a Housing Architect to join our residential team, working on housing-led schemes for private and public sector clients. This is a strong opportunity for a Part 2 Architectural Assistant or newly ARB-registered Architect to develop schemes from early feasibility all the way through to working drawings and construction, working directly under the supervision of one of our Associate Architects.

Key Responsibilities

● Develop housing scheme designs from feasibility through planning, technical design and working drawings (RIBA Stages 1 to 4)

● Produce accurate drawings, models and visualisations using AutoCAD and/or Revit

● Prepare planning application drawings and supporting design documentation

● Check designs against Building Regulations, Nationally Described Space Standards and relevant planning policy

● Coordinate with structural engineers, M&E consultants and other members of the design team

● Attend client meetings and, where required, planning meetings

● Carry out site visits and support construction monitoring on live projects

● Keep project files, drawing registers and documentation up to date

Essential Requirements

● Part 2 qualified Architectural Assistant, or ARB registered Architect

● Experience working on residential or housing projects within a UK architecture practice

● Working knowledge of UK Building Regulations and the planning application process

● Good drawing, design and presentation skills

● Strong attention to detail and clear written communication

● Full UK driving license, for site visits

Desirable Requirements

● Experience with SketchUp or similar visualisation software

● Knowledge of Nationally Described Space Standards and Secured by Design principles

● Experience working with registered providers or housing developers

● Experience on international projects

Software Skills

Essential

● AutoCAD

● Microsoft Office Suite

Desirable

● Revit

● SketchUp

Personal Attributes

● Enthusiastic and motivated, with a genuine interest in housing design

● Willing to collaborate, take initiative and learn from senior colleagues

● Organised, with good time management and attention to detail

● Positive attitude and a team-first approach

● Integrity and honesty in dealing with clients and colleagues

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 12 months, the successful candidate will:

● Be running elements of housing schemes independently, with senior support as needed

● Have built strong working relationships with clients, consultants and the wider team

● Be confidently taking projects through planning and technical design, all the way to working drawings

● Be seen as a reliable, detail-focused member of the residential team

You must have the right to work in the UK. We operate a flexible working pattern between home and the office, currently a 3-day office, 2-day home split, following successful completion of probation.
