Housing Coordinator
37.5 hours per week
Roderique Hope Trust is looking for an experienced and capable Housing Coordinator to join our team.
Roderique Hope Trust is a local Taranaki housing charity providing a range of housing support services across the region, including Transitional Housing, Sustaining Tenancies, Emergency Housing, Community Connector Services, the Ready to Rent programme and the Taranaki Housing Pathways Initiative.
Our work is grounded in compassion, integrity, respect and collaboration. We believe everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and understanding and to have the opportunity to access safe, stable housing.
We are seeking a Housing Coordinator who brings strong housing coordination skills, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to supporting people.
About the role
This is a dual role position, working across two closely connected areas of our organisation, the Transitional Housing team and the Taranaki Housing Pathways Initiative.
Transitional Housing
As a key member of our Transitional Housing team, you will be responsible for the specialist occupancy and operational management of our 14 Transitional Housing properties across Taranaki.
The role ensures our properties are safe, well maintained, compliant and welcoming environments for whānau, while supporting positive occupancy and tenancy outcomes.
You will be responsible for -
- Overseeing the condition, presentation, cleaning, maintenance and compliance of our Transitional Housing properties.
- Coordinating repairs, contractors, property inspections and other property related requirements.
- Managing occupancy processes, agreements, documentation and records.
- Ensuring houses are appropriately set up and ready for whānau moving in.
- Monitoring and responding to maintenance issues, including our after hours maintenance phone.
- Addressing complaints, breaches, antisocial behaviour and inappropriate conduct in a timely and professional manner.
- Having difficult conversations and confidently reinforcing House Rules, Behaviour Agreements and Occupancy Agreements.
- Working alongside the Transitional Housing team to support positive occupancy and housing outcomes.
- Working collaboratively with property owners, contractors, community organisations and other agencies.
A significant part of the role is being able to balance compassion and understanding with clear expectations and professional boundaries. You will need to be confident addressing concerns and inappropriate behaviour when required, while ensuring that conversations are handled with fairness, dignity and respect.
Taranaki Housing Pathways Initiative
The second part of this role sits within the Taranaki Housing Pathways Initiative, where you will work alongside our Outreach Navigators and wider Housing Pathways team.
The Housing Pathways Initiative brings together a coordinated regional response to individuals and whānau experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity or an immediate risk of losing their housing.
Your housing expertise will complement the work of the Outreach Navigators, supporting practical housing pathways and helping people move into safe and suitable accommodation.
This will include -
- Working alongside Outreach Navigators to identify and support appropriate housing options for individuals and whānau.
- Providing practical housing expertise to support transitions from homelessness or housing insecurity into accommodation.
- Assisting with property preparation, furnishing and housing logistics where required to support housing placements.
- Supporting coordinated responses with MSD, Kāinga Ora, iwi, health providers, community organisations, landlords and other agencies.
- Contributing to accurate documentation, reporting and information sharing in accordance with organisational and contractual requirements.
- Working across Roderique Hope Trust's housing services to support seamless transitions between programmes where appropriate.
About you
This role requires someone who is professional, capable, organised and people centred, with the confidence to work across both the operational and relational aspects of housing.
You will understand that effective housing coordination is about more than managing properties. It involves creating safe and well managed homes, building respectful relationships, understanding the circumstances people may be experiencing and responding appropriately when expectations are not being met.
We are looking for someone who can -
- Communicate respectfully and professionally, particularly in challenging situations.
- Have difficult conversations without losing sight of the person.
- Address inappropriate behaviour and breaches confidently and appropriately.
- Set clear expectations and maintain professional boundaries.
- Balance empathy and understanding with consistency, fairness and accountability.
- Remain calm and use sound judgement when situations become challenging.
- Build strong working relationships with whānau, colleagues, landlords, contractors and partner agencies.
- Manage competing priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team.
- Identify practical solutions and follow matters through to completion.
- Adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining professionalism and consistency.
- Demonstrate a genuine commitment to the vision, values and purpose of Roderique Hope Trust.
Skills and experience
We are ideally looking for someone with experience in housing, social services or the community sector, together with an understanding of homelessness, housing insecurity and the barriers people can face in accessing sustainable housing.
You will also have -
- Experience managing challenging situations, conflict and difficult conversations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Sound problem solving and decision making skills.
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple agencies and community partners.
- An understanding of Tikanga Māori and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- The ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in high pressure situations.
- Competent computer and administration skills.
- A First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
Why join Roderique Hope Trust?
This is an opportunity to join a passionate and committed team working to improve housing outcomes for individuals and whānau across Taranaki.
The role provides the opportunity to contribute to both the practical management of safe, well maintained Transitional Housing and the wider regional response to homelessness and housing insecurity.
You will work alongside a dedicated team and a broad network of housing, government and community partners, with the opportunity to see the difference that safe and stable housing can make in people's lives.
If you are an experienced housing professional who combines strong organisational and practical skills with compassion, sound judgement and the confidence to address challenging situations respectfully, we would like to hear from you.
