Corvid HPC is seeking an HPC/CAE Applications Engineer passionate about computational physics, simulation workflows, and HPC. Instead of being confined to narrow component analysis or single-solver loops, this role opens the door to a varied, rewarding, and lucrative career path. Sitting at the intersection of bare-metal supercomputing and advanced simulation, you will apply your computational background to solve diverse engineering challenges alongside the world's most innovative companies.
What You Will Do
- HPC ExecutionTroubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve runtime solver errors, custom scripting bottlenecks, GUI/remote desktop integration issues, and job scheduling hurdles across high-core-count clusters.
- Client Workflow EnablementCustomer Onboarding: Partner with client engineering teams across industries to onboard CAE models, optimize hardware selection, and streamline large-scale simulation execution.
- Workflow Automation: Build and maintain custom Python and Bash scripts to automate parametric sweeps, optimization loops, and multi-physics simulation pipelines.
- Customer BenchmarksScaling Studies: Execute technical benchmarks and scaling studies to demonstrate speedups to prospective/current clients and evaluate new server hardware architectures.
What This Role IS NOT: This is not a traditional design or analysis position. While you work with complex models daily, owning component designs or running routine single-part loops isn't a day-to-day responsibility. Your focus is solving HPC-level execution, scaling, and automation challenges.
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computational Physics, or a related STEM field.
- Academic focus or upper-level coursework in computational physics or continuum mechanics disciplines (e.g., fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, heat transfer, solid mechanics, or finite element methods).
- Hands-on CAE experience (CFD or FEA) gained through Professional roles, Internships, Senior Design / Capstone projects, collegiate engineering teams (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja SAE) or other.
- Basic coding/scripting experience (Python or Bash) and/or familiarity with command-line Linux environments.
- Must be a U.S. Person.
Preferred Skills
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering or related STEM field.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant engineering or computational simulation experience.
- Proven team leadership and sustained commitment in collective group environments (e.g., athletic team captain, marching band / performing arts leadership, ROTC, volunteer fire/EMS, FSAE/Baja sub-team lead, student organization executive, Eagle Scout / Gold Award, or community service leadership).
- Demonstrated experience working with multiple commercial or open-source solvers (e.g., Ansys Fluent/Mechanical, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, STAR-CCM+, NASTRAN, OpenFOAM, or specialized hydrocodes).
- Prior experience submitting, monitoring, or managing jobs through HPC schedulers (e.g., Slurm, PBS, LSF).
- Broad ITSystems Savvy: General literacy across Windows, Linux administration concepts, and basic networking fundamentals-a strong technical curiosity that bridges the gap between pure engineering and IT infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience building or compiling computational software packages in a Linux/HPC environment (e.g., compiling open-source solvers, custom solver extensions, C/Fortran user-defined functions, CMake/Makefiles).
- Exposure to web or database development tools (e.g., Python web frameworks, REST APIs, SQL, Streamlit/Dash, Open OnDemand).
- Curiosity or experience with next-generation computational workflows, surrogate modeling, Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs), or AI-assisted physics tools.
About Corvid HPC
Corvid HPC is an aggressive-growth startup forked from 20+ year defense innovator Corvid Technologies. Expanding from 1 to nearly 200 customers since 2021, we combine high-growth tech momentum with established defense stability. We provide secure, bare-metal supercomputing purpose-built for computational physics. Rather than just handing off compute, we work directly alongside client engineering teams to optimize, troubleshoot, and scale their most demanding workflows.
Why Corvid HPC
Vast ExposureAccelerated Growth: Don't get locked into a pigeon-holed role for the next decade. Beyond day-to-day functions, the greatest value of this role is technical breadth-tackling varied simulation and workflow challenges across hypersonics, defense, medical devices, and advanced manufacturing.
High-Accountability Team Culture: Work on-site at our Lake Norman campus in Mooresville, NC alongside a close-knit team that operates with a low-overhead, team-sports mentality-offering high autonomy to engineers who take ownership and pride in their deliverables. While based in-office to foster team cohesion and rapid development, remote and hybrid flexibility will become available over time for top-performing individual contributors.
Collaborative Technical Ecosystem: Work alongside and learn from the best in the industry. In an integrated campus environment, you will collaborate with Corvid Technologies' developers, analysis teams executing high-stakes DoD programs, and Linux/HPC infrastructure administrators.
Flexible Growth Pathways (Examples of How You Can Evolve):
Computational Mastery Track: Focus on honing deep technical expertise in solver tuning, custom tool compilation, advanced cluster automation, and surrogate physics modeling.
Commercial Track: Build commercial business acumen by working alongside Corvid HPC leadership, mastering technical client enablement, discovery, and GTM(sales) strategy.
How to Apply
When submitting your application, please highlight your hands-on CAE project experience (Senior Design, FSAE, Baja, internships, current/past industry work) and any team leadership roles directly on your resume or application note.
