What they need
About the role
This is a hands-on generalist role and the go-to people partner for managers and teams. You'll look after around 80 people across New Zealand and Australia, working closely with the COO on anything that needs a leadership steer. You'll spend your time coaching managers through real situations, not writing strategy documents. You'll keep people processes running smoothly and help build the practical foundations of a growing multi-site business. As you build your confidence and credibility, you'll take on more, including shaping the learning and development programme, building manager training, and leading succession planning and talent management. Over time, you'll play a bigger part in leading the culture.
Key responsibilities
- Being the first point of contact for managers and team members on day-to-day people matters
- Running end-to-end recruitment and onboarding across all business units in NZ and Australia
- Managing employee relations (performance, conduct, grievances and exits) fairly and consistently, with support from the COO and external advisors on complex matters
- Coordinating the performance cycle, including quarterly EOS 5-5-5 conversations and annual reviews, and maintaining the Talent Matrix
- Leading culture and engagement activity, including the Engagement Survey, Core Values Awards and recognition programmes
- Coordinating the Health & Safety Committee, training registers, and incident and hazard processes
- Keeping HR records, policies, employment agreements and role descriptions current and compliant
- Working with Finance on payroll accuracy, contract changes and leave
About you
- 3–5 years' HR generalist experience, including advising people leaders
- Solid working knowledge of NZ employment law. Familiarity with Australian obligations is a plus
- Confident handling employee relations matters, and good judgement on when to escalate
- Great with people, and able to build trust quickly at every level, from the warehouse floor to the leadership team
- Well organised and able to juggle several things at once without dropping the ball
- Discreet, resilient and commercially grounded
- Some exposure to health & safety processes
- Keen to learn, open to feedback and ambitious to grow your career in HR
- Experience in a multi-site, wholesale, retail or manufacturing environment, a tertiary HR qualification, or familiarity with EOS/Ninety would all be an advantage
