What they need

Ko wai tātou | Who are we?

The Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB) / Kāhui Whakamana Tauwhiro is a Crown Entity which is Aotearoa’s social worker regulator and lead agency for social worker workforce planning.

We protect the safety of members of the public by ensuring social workers are competent and safe to practise and are accountable for the way in which they practise.

We also enhance social workers’ professional practice and provide insight into the opportunities and challenges facing the social work workforce.

We recognise our Crown-Māori commitment as a Te Tiriti O Waitangi partner and are committed to improving services and outcomes for Māori, strengthening the Crown’s relationship with Māori, and developing our Māori capability.

Contribute to work that matters by supporting Aotearoa’s social worker regulator and lead agency for workforce planning. At the SWRB, our work protects public safety, strengthens professional standards, and shapes insight into the social work workforce at the intersection of regulation and government policy. Guided by He Arapaki and our Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations, you’ll join a collaborative, values driven organisation based in central Wellington with flexible, hybrid working.

About the role | Mō te tūnga

As our HR Advisor, you'll be a trusted partner to managers and employees, providing practical advice and support across the full employee lifecycle. You'll work closely with leaders to navigate people-related matters, build capability, manage risk, and deliver HR solutions that support both organisational performance and a positive employee experience.

This is a broad and rewarding generalist role that combines both operational delivery and strategic contribution. You'll have the opportunity to lead recruitment and workforce planning activities, provide employment relations advice, support learning and capability initiatives, contribute to remuneration and workforce planning processes, and help shape the systems, policies, and practices that enable our people to thrive.

Working as part of a small, collaborative People and Culture team, you'll enjoy variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to make a genuine impact. No two days are the same, and you'll play a key role in supporting organisational culture, engagement, wellbeing, and continuous improvement across SWRB.

This is a permanent part-time role, and we're looking for someone who can be present across most weekdays. The role sits at the centre of many of our people processes, so regular touchpoints throughout the week are important. We're seeking someone who is responsive, organised, and able to quickly pull things together when priorities shift. While we're flexible on total hours, we'd like to hear your preferred working days and hours as part of your application. The salary will be pro-rated to reflect the part-time hours.

About you | Mōhou ake

You're an experienced HR professional who enjoys building trusted relationships, solving problems, and helping others succeed. You bring sound judgement, confidence, and a practical approach to navigating people-related matters, balancing empathy with professionalism and good decision-making.

You may currently be working in a generalist HR advisory role and be looking for an opportunity to broaden your experience and influence, or you're ready to take the next step in your HR career within a small, values-driven organisation where your contribution will be visible and valued.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience providing HR advice across the employee lifecycle.
  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to interpret and apply employment legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Confidence managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience contributing to organisational improvement initiatives, projects, or change activities.
  • Sound judgement, discretion, and professionalism when dealing with sensitive matters.
  • An appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to working effectively with Māori and across diverse communities.

We're looking for someone who is collaborative, curious, resilient, and committed to continuous learning. You'll be motivated by meaningful work, enjoy working at pace, and take pride in delivering practical solutions that make a difference for both people and the organisation.

What we offer | Ngā painga

We’re committed to creating a supportive, flexible workplace where people can do meaningful work and thrive. In return, we offer:

  • Flexible working hours to help balance work with other commitments.
  • Hybrid working, with up to two days per week working from home, subject to role requirements.
  • Free gym access, supporting your physical wellbeing.
  • Access to EAP services for confidential wellbeing, counselling, and support.
  • A collaborative, respectful culture where people are supported to ask questions, learn, and grow.
  • A values driven organisation grounded in matatika, manaaki, mahitahi, and māia, with work that has real public impact.

At the Social Workers’ Registration Board, we value diversity and the different perspectives people bring. We support autonomy in our roles and encourage ongoing professional development, creating an inclusive and respectful workplace.

We are committed to providing an accessible recruitment process. If you have any accessibility needs or require adjustments at any stage, please contact us to discuss.
