JSI recently established its HR function and is continuing to build and modernize the systems, processes, and programs needed to support a growing workforce.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Partnering closely with the HR Director, the HR Generalist plays a key hands-on role in managing JSI's pre-onboarding and onboarding processes and administering assigned employee programs. This position serves as the primary HR owner of the employee's transition from accepted offer through successful onboarding, ensuring incoming employees receive timely communication, complete required pre-employment activities, arrive prepared for their first day, and complete required employment documentation accurately and timely.

The HR Generalist also administers key employee programs, including JSI's Apprenticeship and Employee Referral programs, and supports recruiting activities such as career fairs.

This is a highly detail-oriented and deadline-driven role requiring exceptional organization, tracking, follow-through, written communication, professionalism, confidentiality, and customer service. The successful candidate will be comfortable working within evolving processes while actively helping HR document, improve, streamline, and ultimately automate them.

Recruiting Support & Pre-Onboarding

· Confirm required pre-employment activities, including drug and alcohol screening and other applicable pre-employment requirements, have been satisfactorily completed before the employee is cleared to start.

· Maintain detailed tracking of incoming employees, outstanding requirements, deadlines, and start-date readiness.

· Coordinate with Recruiting, hiring managers, Safety, IT, Payroll, and other internal partners to ensure new hires are prepared for their scheduled start date.

· Represent JSI professionally at career fairs, hiring events, school visits, apprenticeship events, and other recruiting activities.

Onboarding

· Facilitate the new hire documentation and compliance portion of new hire orientation, guiding employees through required employment forms and ensuring documentation is complete, accurate, and processed timely.

· Create new employee profiles and maintain accurate employee information within JSI’s HR/Payroll system.

· Complete Form I-9 processing and maintain required employment eligibility documentation.

· Complete Alabama New Hire Reporting and other required new hire submissions.

· Process employee information and documentation required for badging, site access, and other badging requirements.

· Serve as the primary intake and triage point for the HR@JSI shared inbox, providing timely and professional customer service, responding to routine inquiries using established guidance, resolving matters within assigned areas of responsibility, routing other inquiries to the appropriate HR team member, and tracking unresolved requests through resolution.

· Provide timely, polished, and professional responses to employee inquiries related to pre-onboarding, onboarding, and assigned HR programs.

· Protect confidential employee information and exercise sound judgment and discretion in all HR matters.

Employee Programs

· Administer and coordinate JSI’s Apprenticeship Program and Referral program, maintaining participant records, required documentation, progression milestones, communications, deadlines, and other program requirements.

· Serve as a primary point of contact for employees, supervisors, mentors, and other stakeholders regarding assigned employee programs.

· Maintain detailed tracking and documentation to ensure program commitments, milestones, and payments are completed accurately and on time.

· Monitor program participation and outcomes.

· Identify opportunities to improve employee participation, program administration, communication, and effectiveness.

· Partner with the HR Director to support the development, implementation, and launch of JSI’s future programs as JSI continues to grow, and once established, coordinate ongoing program administration.

Process Improvement & Auditing

· Conduct recurring audits of onboarding records, employee profiles, I-9 documentation, employee program records, and other assigned HR data to maintain accuracy and data integrity.

· Create and document detailed HR processes, procedures, checklists, trackers, and controls.

· Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes and improve efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and employee experience.

· Support implementation, testing, and adoption of new HR systems and technology

Team & Culture Expectations

· Grit & Ownership: Brings energy, persistence, and a strong sense of ownership to their work. Has a passion for delivering high-quality results, follows issues through resolution, and genuinely cares about making JSI better for both the company and its employees.

· Team First: Treats colleagues with genuine kindness, respect, and professionalism. Shares information offers help freely and actively supports the success of the entire team.
