What they need

HR Manager

Mercantile Entertainment Group | Dublin
Full-Time, Permanent

About Us

Mercantile Entertainment Group is one of Dublin’s best-known hospitality groups, operating a portfolio of leading venues including Café en Seine, The Mercantile Hotel, Whelan’s, Opium, NoLIta, The George and Pichet.

From bars and restaurants to live music, nightlife and boutique hospitality, our venues are very different, but our people are central to the success of each one.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to oversee and develop the HR function across our venues and Dawson Street head office.

This is a broad, hands-on role covering the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to employee relations, training, performance management and offboarding. You will work closely with our General Managers, chefs, management teams and department heads, providing practical support and advice across a fast-paced, diverse and multi-site business.

The role will include regular audits of regulatory and best-practice training and compliance across our venues. You will agree action points with venue management and use the findings to develop and maintain a group training matrix.

This is a challenging role, but one with genuine scope to make an impact. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to introduce new policies and procedures, improve how we support and develop our teams, and help shape the future culture of the company.

The position would suit an experienced HR professional who enjoys working with people, solving problems and being visible across the business. While based in our Dawson Street head office, regular venue visits and meetings with management teams will be an important part of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day HR support and advice to General Managers, chefs, management teams and department heads
  • Manage employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance processes
  • Ensure HR policies and practices remain compliant with Irish employment law and workplace regulations
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and retention across the group
  • Develop, review and implement HR policies, procedures and employee handbooks
  • Lead change management and the introduction of new HR policies, systems and processes
  • Carry out regular audits covering HR, health and safety, training, employment permits and right-to-work requirements
  • Agree clear action points with venue management and follow through on their completion
  • Develop and maintain a group training matrix covering regulatory and best-practice training
  • Work with venue managers to develop succession plans and practical training programmes
  • Support managers with performance reviews and employee development
  • Work with the head office team on payroll, contracts and general HR administration
  • Ensure employee records are accurate, secure and managed in line with GDPR requirements
  • Support employee wellbeing, inclusion and a positive workplace culture
  • Provide clear HR reporting and practical insights to senior leadership

Preferred Experience

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a senior HR role
  • Experience working in a fast-paced organisation with a diverse workforce
  • Exposure to a multi-site business would be an advantage
  • Strong working knowledge of Irish employment law and HR best practice
  • Experience managing employee relations matters, including disciplinary and grievance processes
  • Experience supporting change management and introducing new policies and processes
  • An understanding of compliance audits, workplace health and safety, employment permits and right-to-work requirements
  • An understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
  • Knowledge of employment permits and right-to-work requirements
  • Experience developing training programmes, training matrices and succession plans
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sound judgement and discretion when handling confidential matters
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A CIPD qualification, or progress towards one, would be an advantage

What We Offer

  • A competitive salary, depending on experience
  • Staff discounts across Mercantile Entertainment Group venues
  • Career development opportunities within a growing hospitality group
  • The opportunity to shape HR policies, processes and culture across the business
  • A varied and influential role within a dynamic, sociable and fast-paced environment

Mercantile Entertainment Group is an equal opportunities employer.
