The Company

APEL Extrusions, Inc. is an aluminum extruder, finisher and fabricator serving commercial, residential and industrial markets across Western Canada and the Western United States. Our operations include facilities in Calgary, Alberta; Coburg, Oregon; and Phoenix, Arizona.

Job Summary

APEL Extrusions is seeking a Human Resources Manager for its Coburg, Oregon facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role is a member of the plant management team and provides HR support throughout the employee life cycle. The HR Manager partners with leadership on recruitment, employee relations, workforce planning, compliance and employee engagement. This is a full-time onsite position.

The HR Manager also works with HR colleagues and APEL’s leadership team on initiatives across our North American operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage recruitment, including sourcing, screening, interviewing and onboarding.
• Advise managers and employees on workplace concerns; conduct investigations and recommend resolutions.
• Support performance management, employee development and training.
• Administer employee benefits and respond to employee questions.
• Coordinate accurate biweekly payroll information with managers and the payroll/accounting team.
• Complete HR transactions and maintain accurate records in HR systems and personnel files.
• Develop and update policies, procedures and the employee handbook.
• Support compliance with applicable federal, Oregon and local employment requirements.
• Develop and carry out employee engagement initiatives.
• Maintain vacation schedules and accrual records.
• Participate in workplace health and safety activities.
• Prepare HR reports and metrics, including headcount, turnover and attendance.
• Manage workers’ compensation claims and support workplace injury reporting and return-to-work processes.
• Provide occasional support to employees on other shifts.
• Lead or participate in plant and company-wide HR projects, and support other APEL locations as needed.

Qualifications and Competencies

• Post-secondary education in human resources or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as an HR Manager or Generalist, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting employee relations, performance management and applying employment laws and HR practices.
• Experience managing candidate sourcing, full-cycle recruitment and talent management programs.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and Word, and experience working with an HRIS (Paycor and/or Dayforce is an asset).
• Experience with disability management, incident investigations and return-to-work programs.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with employees and leaders at all levels.
• Clear written and verbal communication, sound judgment and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to handle confidential information professionally and learn new systems quickly.
• SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR certification, or progress toward one, is an asset.

Travel

Periodic travel to APEL’s other U.S. and Canadian operations could be expected.
