What they need

HSE Advisor

PJD Mechanical Engineering
Base: Doncaster – with regular travel to client sites

PJD Mechanical Engineering is looking to recruit an experienced HSE Advisor to support our operations across a range of engineering and client sites.

While the role will be based from Doncaster, the majority of the position will involve travelling to client and operational sites as required. We are therefore looking for someone who enjoys being out within the operation, working directly with site teams and providing visible, practical HSE support.

You will work closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, supervisors, employees and clients to maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental performance, ensuring compliance with legislation, company procedures and site-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical HSE advice and support across client and operational sites.
  • Support and embed the Company's Health, Safety & Environmental strategy.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits and incident investigations.
  • Develop, review and implement Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Support contractor management, including PQQs, inductions and performance monitoring.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, HSE briefings and in-house training.
  • Coach and support supervisors and managers to strengthen safety leadership.
  • Assist with client, external, regulatory and ISO audits.
  • Monitor HSE objectives and KPIs, identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Promote proactive hazard identification and continuous improvement.
  • Support environmental initiatives and respond appropriately to environmental incidents.
  • Support emergency preparedness across operational locations.
  • Communicate HSE expectations effectively to employees and management.
  • Maintain a visible and proactive HSE presence across the sites supported by the business.

About You

We are looking for an experienced HSE professional who is comfortable operating within engineering and site-based environments.

You should have experience within manufacturing, fabrication, heavy engineering, mechanical contracting or a similar operational sector and be confident working directly with employees, supervisors, management teams and clients.

You will need to be comfortable with regular travel, as visiting and supporting client sites forms a significant part of this position.

You will also need:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate – essential
  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Previous HSE advisory experience within an operational environment
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations
  • Experience producing and reviewing RAMS and Safe Systems of Work
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills
  • The ability to influence and engage employees at all levels
  • A practical, hands-on approach to health and safety
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • The ability to manage priorities across multiple sites and projects
  • Good Microsoft Office skills

Desirable Qualifications

  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • ECITB Safety Passport
  • NEBOSH Diploma
  • First Aid at Work
  • Confined Space training

The Role

This position would suit someone who does not want to be confined to an office-based HSE role.

You'll be expected to spend a significant proportion of your time travelling to client sites, engaging with operational teams and maintaining a strong HSE presence where our work is being delivered.

You'll need to be confident working independently, managing your own priorities and building effective relationships with our employees, management teams and clients.

If you're a practical, proactive and site-focused HSE professional looking for a varied role within an engineering environment, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply today to join PJD Mechanical Engineering as our HSE Advisor.
