What they need
We are seeking an experienced HSEQ and Systems Manager to take ownership of integrated management systems, critical risk frameworks and assurance across a busy and expanding civil construction business.
This is a strategic, business-facing role suited to someone who combines strong technical HSEQ knowledge with a pragmatic approach to systems, governance and continuous improvement. You will lead the development of practical, effective processes that support safe operations, regulatory compliance and successful project delivery, while working closely with senior leadership and operational teams.
With responsibility for the HSEQ and systems function, you will drive improvements in how systems are designed, implemented and monitored, ensuring they remain fit for purpose as the business grows and evolves.
Key Responsibilities:
- Management Systems: Lead the development, governance and continual improvement of integrated management systems, policies, procedures and workflows, ensuring they are practical, compliant and user-friendly.
- Certification & Compliance: Oversee ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification requirements, internal and external audits, prequalifications and corrective actions.
- Critical Risk Management: Maintain oversight of critical risk frameworks, ensuring key controls are clearly defined, responsibilities are assigned and assurance processes verify their effectiveness.
- Assurance & Reporting: Establish effective assurance processes, monitor HSEQ performance and provide senior leadership with clear reporting on compliance, trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
- Business Improvement: Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce duplication, improve reporting and introduce digital solutions that enhance efficiency and visibility.
- Strategic Planning: Translate business priorities into practical HSEQ, systems and assurance plans, with measurable objectives and improvement initiatives.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Lead and support the HSEQ Team Leader, setting clear priorities and ensuring resources are directed towards areas of greatest operational risk.
- Operational Engagement: Work alongside regional and operational leaders to embed HSEQ accountability throughout the business, ensuring project documentation, controls and compliance requirements are effectively implemented.
- Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with senior management, project teams, clients, auditors, regulators and other key stakeholders.
Skills & Experience:
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated experience managing, developing or improving integrated management systems within civil construction, infrastructure, utilities or a similar high-risk operational environment.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, including certification, auditing and compliance requirements.
- Experience overseeing critical risk frameworks and providing assurance that critical controls are implemented and effective.
- Proven leadership capability, with experience guiding people, influencing operational teams and engaging confidently with senior management.
- A track record of translating legislative, certification and client requirements into practical systems and processes.
- Strong analytical, reporting and organisational skills, with the ability to identify trends, assess risk and prioritise improvement initiatives.
- Good digital and systems capability, including an interest in technology, automation and improving business processes.
The Ideal Candidate:
You will be a pragmatic, solutions-focused professional who can balance governance and compliance with the realities of day-to-day operations. You will be comfortable challenging established practices, simplifying complex systems and driving meaningful improvements without creating unnecessary administration.
Your ability to influence others, establish clear accountabilities and hold people to agreed standards will be just as important as your technical HSEQ expertise. You will bring sound judgement, integrity and the confidence to escalate significant risks while building positive, collaborative relationships across the business.
If you are interested in becoming a key member of a growing civil construction business and helping them develop strong, practical HSEQS practices please APPLY ONLINE now.
