Human Resources Generalist
Birmingham, MI | On-Site | Full-Time, Exempt
Simon Group Holdings is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our growing corporate People team in Birmingham. In this role, you'll be a trusted partner to employees and leaders across our multi-entity organization — with a hand in everything from onboarding new hires to benefits administration, compliance, and employee relations. It's a role with real variety and real impact, reporting to the Human Resources Manager and working closely with Talent Acquisition and cross-functional partners across the business.
Why You'll Like It Here
- Broad exposure: touch nearly every part of the employee experience, from day one through key milestones.
- Room to grow: join a People team scaling alongside the business, with a clear path toward HR leadership.
- Great mentorship: work closely with the HR Manager and get hands-on exposure to HR strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Own the new hire process, including onboarding, orientation, new hire paperwork, and I-9 documentation.
- Administer benefits enrollments and election changes, ensuring accuracy in vendor systems and compliance with plan requirements.
- Maintain personnel files in accordance with federal and state recordkeeping requirements.
- Support the rollout of HR policies and process improvements.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition on hiring strategy and get hands-on experience in candidate interviews.
- Coordinate with benefits administrators on deductions for benefits, leaves, garnishments, and retirement plans.
- Conduct routine audits of HR data and catch issues before they become problems.
- Process employment verification requests within required timeframes.
- Bring a strong sense of urgency to time-sensitive HR requests and deadlines.
- Collaborate with the HR Manager, Talent Acquisition, and other partners to keep projects moving.
- Apply sharp problem-solving skills to resolve employee relations inquiries and HR data discrepancies.
- Jump into HR projects and initiatives that stretch your skills.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of hands-on HR experience.
- A natural sense of urgency and strong organizational skills.
- A collaborative mindset — you build trust easily with employees, leaders, and cross-functional partners.
- Sharp problem-solving instincts and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel and MS Office.
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar) preferred but not required.
