What they need

About the Role:

St Pierre’s has grown to 80 plus stores within a short period. With our continued national expansion, we are looking for a motivated, results-oriented Human Resources Administrator for our HR Department. This is a 1 year fixed term contract with 90-days trial.

As an integral part of our team, you will serve as the crucial operational bridge between our Head Office and store leadership teams. You will play a multi-faceted role covering end-to-end payroll processing, high-touch manager support, administrative compliance, proactive conflict resolution, and supervised Employee Relations (ER). If you love driving operational excellence while cultivating a positive, compliant workplace culture, this role is built for you. This is a full-time onsite role on a fixed term contract.

Your typical day will include:

  1. Payroll & Core Data Management
  • Accurately process weekly payroll on time for 1–2 company entities using our internal payroll software.
  • Generate, analyze, and distribute weekly wage reports linked to the company Bonus Plan.
  • Diligently maintain and update core HR records, ensuring all major people data remains secure, current, and accessible for strategic reporting.
  1. High-Touch HR Support
  • Serve as the go-to first line of support for Area Managers and Shop Managers via phone, email, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Walk store leaders through complex administrative processes, building their confidence in managing their day-to-day HR responsibilities.
  • Execute rigorous follow-up procedures for all mandatory store-level administrative and compliance tasks to ensure zero drop-off.
  • Assist with classroom training for store managers, successfully upskilling and training our store managers.
  1. Employee Relations & Workplace Compliance
  • Assist senior HR leadership with basic to mid-level ER matters under direct supervision, applying company policies consistently.
  • Coordinate procedural and administrative workflows for 90-day trial terminations and abandonment of employment cases with strict adherence to NZ legal standards.
  • Take ownership of collecting CCTV evidence, managing notifications, conducting routine branch compliance checks, and gathering evidence when required.
  • Intervene early to mediate day-to-day interpersonal workplace disputes, fostering resolution before cases escalate into formal grievances.
  1. Core Administration
  • Prepare accurate, formal employee documentation including work experience letters, leave approval notifications, and employment verifications.
  • Oversee background check workflows and manage the administrative refresh and rollout of Individual Employment Agreements (IEAs) policies, and other company documentation across the business.
  • Adhoc works at an administrative level as and when required.

The successful applicant must:

  • Work Rights: Must be a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident.
  • Driver's Licence: Must hold a current, Full Driver’s Licence.
  • Experience: Hands-on experience in Human Resources OR relevant tertiary qualification in HR/Business.
  • NZ Employment Law: A strong foundational understanding of NZ employment frameworks (Employment Relations Act, Holidays Act, trial periods, etc.).
  • Payroll Skills: Hands-on payroll experience is highly desirable (though comprehensive software orientation will be provided).

Key Competencies & Personal Attributes

  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey policy clearly and empathetically.
  • Discretion: Utmost integrity and proven experience managing highly confidential, sensitive information.
  • Problem Solving: Sound judgment, decision-making capabilities, and the confidence to work independently within established guidelines.
  • People & Team Focus: Approachable, positive demeanor with a natural team-player mentality.
  • Organisation: Superb time-management skills with the ability to balance strict weekly deadlines alongside ER support.

What we offer

  • Competitive remuneration package offered
  • Internal career development opportunities
  • Excellent supportive team and friendly environment
  • Staff lunch and discounts on selected food
  • Being part of an honest, hardworking and reputable team
  • Training and Support from management

Who we are

St Pierre's is an iconic name in the New Zealand food landscape, synonymous with accessible and fresh Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi. What began as a humble delicatessen and seafood store in Wellington in 1984, founded by three brothers, has evolved into a nationwide phenomenon.

Today, with over 80 stores across New Zealand, St Pierre's is celebrated for its commitment to providing "Kiwi standard sushi" – a healthy, value-for-money, and convenient meal option that has successfully captured the hearts (and appetites) of New Zealanders. Beyond sushi, our menu has expanded to include popular hot dishes, such as Bento Bowls and "chicken on rice," continuously innovating to cater to evolving tastes. St Pierre's stands as a testament to entrepreneurial vision and a deep understanding of the local market, making it a beloved and enduring brand in Aotearoa.

A competitive salary will be offered to the right candidate.
