What they need
Midwest Alloys LLC is seeking an organized, proactive Human Resources Administrator to support our employees and manage daily office operations at our new processing facility in Granite City, Illinois, in the greater St. Louis area. This role supports production, maintenance, warehouse, and administrative teams and plays a key part in building a productive, supportive workplace.
The HR Administrator will lead recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits, training, and HR administration, while helping managers set clear expectations and develop their teams. Working closely with company leadership, supervisors, employees, and outside advisers, the HR Administrator will establish consistent HR policies and practices and keep daily operations running smoothly.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who can build teams, train and motivate employees, and handle sensitive matters with sound judgment, clear communication, and confidentiality, while managing multiple priorities and following through on details.
What the ideal candidate will do:
- Recruit employees for production, maintenance, warehouse, and administrative positions: identify staffing needs with managers, post job openings, source and screen candidates, conduct interviews, check references, and coordinate job offers.
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding, including pre-employment requirements, new-hire orientation, onboarding procedures, and employee departures and related documentation.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills are essential for this role. We are seeking a leader who can:
- Build strong teams by developing positive working relationships across departments and encouraging teamwork, accountability, and collaboration.
- Train and develop employees through new-hire training and ongoing development that help them gain skills, improve performance, and grow professionally.
- Motivate and engage employees by coordinating employee recognition and team activities.
- Coach and support managers to set clear expectations, motivate employees, and address performance concerns.
- Assist with performance reviews, attendance management, and documentation of employee matters, and maintain accurate training records.
- Maintain HR records, keeping employee files, employment documentation, personnel changes, and confidential records accurate, organized, and current.
- Administer payroll and timekeeping in Gusto: review time records with supervisors, process payroll, and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Coordinate employee benefits, including enrollment and employee changes, communication with benefits providers, and helping employees understand available benefits.
- Serve as a trusted employee resource for questions about policies, pay, benefits, attendance, and leave; work with leadership to address concerns fairly, professionally, and confidentially.
- Develop and maintain onboarding procedures, handbook materials, and HR processes with leadership and outside advisers, and support consistent application of company policies and applicable employment requirements.
- Prepare practical reports on staffing, hiring progress, attendance, and other HR priorities to support leadership decisions.
- Identify and implement practical improvements to HR procedures, administrative workflows, and office operations.
- Perform other duties as needed.
What the ideal candidate will bring:
- Degree preferred in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- At least three years of relevant HR experience, including recruiting, onboarding, payroll, or benefits administration.
- Experience supporting office administration and daily operational needs.
- Demonstrated leadership, team building, and employee training skills, with the ability to coach and motivate others.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with employees, supervisors, and leadership.
- Ability to handle difficult conversations and employee concerns with fairness and professionalism.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and HR or payroll systems.
- Working knowledge of employment practices, payroll procedures, and HR record keeping.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Sound judgment and confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and business information.
- Ability to work independently, exercise discretion, and manage competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Manufacturing, industrial, distribution, or warehouse experience.
- Experience with Gusto payroll and HR software.
