About the Business

GEARS Mining is an Australian family-owned company providing specialist maintenance solutions and products to mine sites located across six continents.

Due to continuous business growth and ongoing customer demand, GEARS Mining requires an experienced Human Resource and Payroll Officer to deliver outstanding support for our team in Toowoomba.

This diverse role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across multiple functions on a part-time basis – 20 hours per week over 3 or 4 days.  While we offer flexibility in working arrangements, our payroll processing takes place every second Thursday so this day would be a non-negotiable working day.

  • Maintain employee payroll records and personal information.
  • Manage timesheets, leave balances, superannuation, and payroll reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant awards, legislation, and workplace policies.
  • Respond to employee payroll enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Preparation of monthly payroll tax & PAYG

Human Resources

  • Support end to end recruitment activities, including advertising vacancies, screening applications, and coordinating interviews.
  • Prepare employment contracts, onboarding documentation, and induction materials.
  • Maintain employee files and HR databases.
  • Assist with performance management and training coordination.
  • Support HR compliance and policy administration.

General Administration

  • Coordinate office supplies and general office functions.
  • Assist with preparing reports, spreadsheets, presentations and document control.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and business projects as required.

About You

This role would suit an individual who is looking for flexibility in their working hours.  It may also suit someone who wants to gain valuable work experience whilst studying.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Minimum 2 years previous experience in Human Resources and payroll
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes
  • Ability to accurately interpret employment legislation & awards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Prior experience with Employment Hero would be an advantage.

What We Offer
