What they need

About us

K&K Foods operates 26 restaurants across [region], supported by a small corporate office. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional to help manage our payroll in ADP and help onboard our team onto a new HR platform.

Role summary

This role owns payroll for all store and office employees and monitors meal and rest break compliance across our stores. You will review time punches, catch missed or late breaks, work with store managers to fix problems, and make sure every employee's paperwork is complete and up to date. The role suits someone who is precise with numbers, comfortable holding managers accountable, and discreet with confidential pay information.

Key responsibilitiesPayroll (about 50% of the role)

  • Process [weekly / biweekly] payroll for all store and office employees through [payroll system, e.g. ADP, Paychex, Gusto].
  • Collect and review timecards from [timekeeping system], confirming hours, overtime, PTO and holiday pay.
  • Correct missed punches and timecard errors with store managers before each payroll deadline.
  • Enter new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, deductions and garnishments.
  • Reconcile payroll registers and reports, and resolve discrepancies before payday.
  • Answer employee questions about paychecks, deductions and direct deposit.
  • Keep payroll records accurate, organized and confidential.
  • Support year-end W-2 processing, payroll tax filings and audits with [accountant / payroll provider].

Break and labor compliance (about 30% of the role)

  • Review time punches for every store [daily / weekly] to confirm meal and rest breaks are taken on time and for the full length required by state law and company policy.
  • Flag missed, late, short or skipped breaks and follow up with store managers to correct the cause.
  • Calculate and process break penalty or premium pay where state law requires it.
  • Track overtime, split shifts and minor work-hour limits, and alert managers before violations happen.
  • Prepare a weekly break compliance report by store, highlighting trends and repeat issues.
  • Help train store managers on break rules, scheduling for coverage and correct timekeeping.
  • Visit stores for occasional spot checks of break practices and posted labor notices.
  • Keep documentation of follow-ups and corrections in case of audits or wage claims.

Employee paperwork and records (about 20% of the role)

  • Audit employee files for every store on a regular schedule, [monthly / quarterly], to confirm required paperwork is complete, signed and current.
  • Make sure new hires complete all paperwork before their first paycheck: I-9 with supporting documents, W-4, state tax forms, direct deposit, emergency contacts and signed offer or hire forms.
  • Track expiring documents, such as I-9 work authorizations, work permits for minors, and food handler or other required certifications, and follow up before they lapse.
  • Collect signed acknowledgments of the employee handbook, break policy and other company policies.
  • Process paperwork for status changes: promotions, pay changes, transfers between stores, leaves of absence and terminations.
  • Work with store managers to collect missing or incomplete documents and keep a tracker of open items by store.
  • Keep personnel, payroll and I-9 files stored securely and separately as required, and follow record retention rules.
  • Help with office filing: sort, label and file paper and digital documents, keep filing systems organized, and scan or archive older records.
  • Support onboarding, offboarding and general office tasks as needed.

Ad hoc projects and other duties

  • Take on ad hoc requests and special projects from leadership, such as pulling labor or payroll reports, researching policy questions, or setting up paperwork for a new restaurant.
  • Pitch in wherever the office needs help, and take on other duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of hands-on payroll experience, ideally for hourly employees.
  • Working knowledge of wage-and-hour rules, including overtime and meal and rest break requirements.
  • Experience with payroll and timekeeping systems.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills (filters, formulas, pivot tables).
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Preferred

  • Payroll experience in retail, restaurants or another multi-location business.
  • Experience with [your payroll and timekeeping systems].
  • Knowledge of [state] labor law, especially break and premium pay rules.
  • Payroll certification such as FPC or CPP, or working toward one.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, business or human resources.

Skills and qualities

  • Accurate: catches errors in hours and pay before they reach a paycheck.
  • Firm but tactful: holds store managers to break rules while keeping a good working relationship.
  • Analytical: spots patterns in time data and turns them into clear reports.
  • Deadline-driven: never misses a payroll cutoff.
  • Trustworthy: keeps pay and personnel information strictly confidential.
  • Organized: keeps clean records that stand up to an audit.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • Flexible schedule
  • Health insurance
