HR Executive

Onsite - Lympstone
Ark is exclusive partnering with a highly respected, established SME based out of their stunning offices in Lympstone, with national branches and coverage. They are going through some exciting growth and change, so are now looking to bring in an experienced and people focused HR Executive to support with day to day HR responsibilities and Talent Acquisition.
The role: -
A new addition for the team, working alongside a smaller team of office-based staff, for this specialist and niche veterinary business. Currently the HR team consists of a HR Assistant and a HR Consultant who operates on a part time basis, so this role is an incredibly important hire, bridging the gap between high level HR and the day to day admin – the main goal, adding value to the people employed, being the face of HR within the business, and supporting the SLT in ensuring smooth processes from hiring, onboarding, performance and offboarding when required.
Main responsibilities: -
- Work closely with department managers to support effective people management, including 1:1s, appraisals, performance, holiday requests, absence and day-to-day employee matters.
- Review and improve HR systems, processes and policies, making better use of BrightHR and ensuring procedures are streamlined, effective and fit for purpose for both the business and employees.
- Write and advertise engaging, accurate job descriptions based on briefs from hiring managers and Directors, covering permanent hires and apprenticeship opportunities.
- Coordinate and manage the interview process from initial scheduling through to feedback, working closely with hiring teams to ensure a smooth candidate experience and adherence to agreed hiring timelines.
- Develop and continuously improve the onboarding process, ensuring new starters receive a positive introduction to the business, and all contracts and relevant documentation are issued accurately and on time.
- Support the early stages of employee relations matters, including grievances, formal warnings and dismissals, escalating to the senior HR team and SLT where appropriate.
- Act as a first point of contact for employees, providing day-to-day HR support, listening to feedback and helping resolve queries, concerns and issues relating to their roles and working environment.
- Work collaboratively with Marketing to develop and maintain the company’s employer brand, ensuring recruitment advertising and candidate communications are consistent with the wider brand and guidelines.
What we’re looking for:-
- 3+ years’ experience within an HR role, ideally as an HR Assistant ready to take the next step or an HR Executive looking for a new challenge, with hands-on experience across the responsibilities outlined above.
- A good working knowledge of employment law principles, with a proactive approach to keeping up to date with changes in legislation and best practice.
- CIPD qualification would be a strong advantage, but it’s not essential - at this stage, practical experience and the ability to make an impact are more important than qualifications alone.
- Proven experience across recruitment and talent acquisition, with the confidence to write job descriptions, advertise roles, coordinate interviews, manage offers and support the onboarding process from start to finish.
- Experience in veterinary recruitment would be a huge advantage but by no means an essential.
- Confident and driven, with the ability to manage upwards when needed. You won’t be afraid to challenge, say no when appropriate and make confident decisions when working with managers and senior stakeholders.
- A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel occasionally across the UK when required.
- People-focused and proactive, with plenty of ideas and a genuine interest in improving the employee experience. Someone who enjoys getting stuck into projects, taking ownership and finding ways to add value across the HR function and wider business.

- Quarterly company bonus structure
