Human Resources Generalist

Location: Walton Hills, Ohio (On-site)
Employment Type: Full Time
Reports To: HR Director
Compensation: Competitive base salary with performance bonus eligibility

Role Summary

Extera Building Solutions is a growing construction company with union teams across Ohio, and we're looking for an HR Generalist to help keep our people operations running smoothly. You'll report to our HR Director and work on-site at our Walton Hills office. The job is a real mix: recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits, compliance, and reporting. As we grow and add new companies, you'll also help build the HR processes that keep everyone on the same page.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This role has no direct reports.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own recruiting for office, technical, and field roles from start to finish, and our operations team to get the right people on the job.
  • Get new hires off to a good start with offer letters, onboarding paperwork, I-9 and E-Verify, and safety training coordinated with our Safety and Operations teams.
  • Be a trusted resource for managers on attendance, performance, corrective action, and workplace conflicts, and keep documentation clear and consistent.
  • Help our leadership and legal counsel administer our union contracts (CBAs).
  • Coordinate performance reviews and training, including harassment prevention, safety, and supervisor training, and help develop our foremen, supervisors, and managers.
  • Help employees with benefits, open enrollment, FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation, and return-to-work.
  • Keep personnel files and HR records accurate and up to date, and support audits, EEO-1 reporting, and compliance with federal and Ohio employment law.
  • Keep our HR systems clean and put together regular reports on headcount, turnover, recruiting, and training for leadership and our investors.
  • Help employees at newly acquired companies settle in at Extera by walking them through our systems, benefits, policies, and handbook.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of HR standard operating procedures (SOPs), and support employee engagement and retention initiatives.

Skills and Capabilities

  • You communicate well, use good judgment, and know how to handle confidential information.
  • You advocate for employees and can work through conflict calmly.
  • You pay attention to details and are always looking for a better way to do things.
  • You're comfortable with HRIS/ATS systems and Microsoft 365.

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5+ years of HR experience supporting both hourly and salaried employees.
  • A working knowledge of employment laws like EEO, ADA, FMLA, and wage and hour.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with union employees and contracts.
  • Experience in construction, manufacturing or field services.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification.

Travel

  • You'll be based in Walton Hills, Ohio, with occasional trips to our operating companies and job sites. We cover approved travel expenses.

Physical Demand and Environment

  • Most of your day will be at a desk, using a computer and phone and talking with people.
  • Standing, walking, and climbing stairs or ladders come up occasionally, mostly during job-site visits.
  • You may occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds. Heavier lifting and kneeling or crawling aren't part of the job.
  • On job sites, you'll wear required safety gear (PPE) and may be around loud noise, heat, cold, and changing weather.
